FC 26 Maradona of the Carpathians Evolution: Requirements, Upgrades, and Best Cards

Pick an LM card under 91 OVR and you can turn it into a 93-rated playmaker built on Gheorghe Hagi.

The Maradona of the Carpathians Evolution is live in FC 26, and it reshapes a wide attacker into a high-end creator modeled on Romanian great Gheorghe Hagi. The path adds heavy pace, passing, and dribbling upgrades, plus a string of new PlayStyles, so the card you start with matters more than usual.

Quick answer: Use a left midfielder (LM) rated 91 or lower, with no more than 5 total positions, 10 PlayStyles, and 3 PlayStyles+, and avoid any World Tour Silver Stars card. The Evolution finishes the card at 93 OVR and adds CAM as a position.

Maradona of the Carpathians Evolution requirements

Your chosen card must meet every condition below before it can enter the Evolution. The position lock is the key filter, since only LM cards are eligible.

All five upgrade levels and stat boosts

The Evolution runs across five levels. Each level grants a fixed set of stat increases and PlayStyle additions, and the new position (CAM) arrives at the first level. The values below show the boost followed by the capped result.

LevelUpgradesPlayStyle
1Overall +15|93, Acceleration +30|94, Sprint Speed +30|93, Free Kick +25|94, adds CAMTechnical (3)
2Finishing +25|92, Long Passing +25|94, Positioning +25|92, Shot Power +25|97, Skills +4Finesse Shot (3)
3Penalties +25|94, Short Passing +25|95, Vision +25|93, Volleys +25|93, Weak Foot +4Incisive Pass (8)
4Agility +25|90, Balance +25|90, Reactions +25|92, Stamina +30|93Press Proven (8)
5Ball Control +25|95, Dribbling +25|95, Jumping +30|95, Long Shots +25|96, Composure +25|95Dead Ball (8)

Every level shares the same task. Play one match in Squad Battles on at least Semi-Pro difficulty, or use Rush, Rivals, Champions, or Live Events, with your active Evolution player in the lineup. The upgrade applies once the match completes, so a single qualifying game per level moves you forward.

Best LM cards to use in the Evolution

The strongest base cards are those that already sit close to the 91 cap and carry useful PlayStyles you will not waste. Wide attackers with strong dribbling and finishing convert best, since the path layers a CAM role and creator stats on top. These cards fit the requirements and are worth prioritizing.

  • Gervinho FC Fantasy Hero
  • Semenyo FC Fantasy
  • Sane Answer the Call
  • Adeyemi Answer the Call
  • Mane Unbreakables
  • Vinicius Jr. TOTW
  • Sterling FC Fantasy
  • Hoeneß Prime Hero
  • Valera Showdown
  • Mbappe LaLiga POTM
  • Coman Winter Wildcards
  • Barry Showdown

Tip: Check the card’s current PlayStyles before committing. The Evolution adds Technical, Finesse Shot, Incisive Pass, Press Proven, and Dead Ball, so a base card already holding those gains less. A card whose PlayStyle slots are open will stack the new ones cleanly instead of hitting the limit.

How to confirm the Evolution worked

After each qualifying match, the card’s level meter advances and the listed stats apply automatically. Once all five levels finish, the card shows a 93 overall, the added CAM position alongside LM, and the full PlayStyle set from the table above. If the upgrade does not register, the most common cause is using a card that fails one of the entry rules, such as an overall above 91, more than 5 positions, or the wrong rarity. Only LM cards qualify, so a player listed at another primary position will not appear as eligible.

With the right starting card, the finished Evolution gives you a left-sided creator that can drop into a CAM slot, carry the ball, and threaten from set pieces, which is exactly the profile the Hagi-inspired path is built around.
