Fiber Mesh in Subnautica 2: Recipe and Crafting Steps

Fiber Mesh in Subnautica 2: Recipe and Crafting Steps

Fiber Mesh is a Basic Materials component in Subnautica 2, produced at any Fabricator from refined Fiber and Strong Acid. It feeds into several core upgrades you will want early, including the Rebreather, Improved Fins, and the Tailing Drum, so getting the supply chain running is one of the first crafting loops worth building out.

🧪
Quick answer: Craft Fiber Mesh at a Fabricator using 2x Fiber and 1x Strong Acid. Each Fiber requires 2x Fibrous Pulp harvested from plant life with the Survival Multitool.

Fiber Mesh recipe and where it sits in the Fabricator

Fiber Mesh lives under the Basic Materials section of the Fabricator's Resources tab. You will not see it on the main crafting screen by default; you need to drill into Resources first, then Basic Materials, and select it from there.

FiberFabricator (Basic Materials)2x Fibrous Pulp

One Fiber Mesh, therefore, costs 4x Fibrous Pulp plus 1x Strong Acid in raw inputs. The Lifepod's built-in Fabricator runs on its own power, but Fabricators in player-built bases need their own power source, so plan on at least one Solar Panel if you are crafting away from the pod.

Harvest Fibrous Pulp with the Survival Multitool

Fibrous Pulp drops from cutting fiber-bearing plant life. You need the Survival Multitool to harvest it, which is crafted at a Fabricator from 2x Titanium Ore. Each plant can be cut multiple times, and each cut yields one Fibrous Pulp.

Four plant types in the shallow waters around the Lifepod reliably produce Fibrous Pulp:

PlantDistance from LifepodDirectionDepth
Curtain Gorgon31mSW15m
Cradle Shootroot70mE15m
Feather Kelp29mSW27m
Macaron Sponge250mNE30m

Curtain Gorgon is a brown, wavy coral growing on larger coral and rock structures in shallow water. Cradle Shootroot sits on the seafloor with sea-green, orange-tipped leaves and a glowing orange bulb (the bulb is Lucifer Rotsac, used for Rubber, so harvesting these plants doubles up nicely). Feather Kelp grows on cavern walls, including the cave directly beneath the Lifepod, and has orange stems with dark pink leaves. Macaron Sponge is a flat purple-and-pink mushroom that is easy to spot from a distance, but the area around it is patrolled by hostile sea life, so approach carefully.

From Fibrous Pulp to Fiber Mesh

Step 1: Take at least 4x Fibrous Pulp to any powered Fabricator. Open the Resources tab, then the Basic Materials section.

Step 2: Craft Fiber twice. Each Fiber consumes 2x Fibrous Pulp, so you will produce 2x Fiber from your 4 pulp.

Step 3: With 2x Fiber and 1x Strong Acid in your inventory, select Fiber Mesh from the same Basic Materials menu. The Fabricator outputs one Fiber Mesh per craft.

Fiber on its own is also useful, since it goes into Basic Fins and both tiers of First Aid Kit. If you only need fins or healing items, stop at the Fiber stage and skip the acid cost.

What Fiber Mesh is used for

Once you have Fiber Mesh, several mid-progression items open up at the Fabricator and Habitat Builder. These are the upgrades that justify keeping a small stockpile on hand.

Improved FinsFabricator1x1x Basic Fins, 2x Conduit Crystal
RebreatherFabricator2x1x System Chip
Tailing DrumHabitat Builder2x2x Titanium

The Rebreather alone is reason enough to keep crafting Fiber Mesh, since deeper exploration becomes painful without it. Two Fiber Mesh plus a System Chip is the full bill, which translates to 8x Fibrous Pulp and 2x Strong Acid in raw form.

Common reasons the craft fails

If Fiber Mesh is greyed out in the Fabricator menu, only a few things are usually wrong. You either lack one of the two ingredients in your inventory, you have raw Fibrous Pulp instead of refined Fiber, or the Fabricator you are using is unpowered. Base Fabricators without a connected Solar Panel or other power source will not run any recipe, even if every material is on hand. The Lifepod Fabricator sidesteps this entirely thanks to its built-in power.

One more practical tip worth noting: Fibrous Pulp also cooks into Oily Salad, one of the earliest food options in the game. If you are harvesting plants in bulk for Fiber Mesh, you can divert a few pulp toward food without making a separate trip.
