Quick answer: Final Fantasy VII Revelation launches April 8, 2027 on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, and Xbox on PC). Pre-orders are live now, and the Standard edition costs $69.99.

Release date, platforms, and the 30th anniversary tie-in

Square Enix confirmed the date during a PlayStation State of Play broadcast, capping an extended gameplay look with a release-date trailer. The timing is deliberate. April 2027 lines up with the 30th anniversary of the original 1997 game, so the finale of the remake project doubles as a milestone for the whole franchise.

Pre-order bonuses and save-data rewards

Every edition comes with the same pre-order incentive: the Mecha-Chocobo & Moogle Summon Materia. On top of that, existing players are rewarded for finishing the earlier games.

If you have save data from Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade on your console or PC, you unlock the Chocobo & Moogle Summon Materia and a FFVII Remake weapon skin set. Save data from Final Fantasy VII Rebirth unlocks the Phoenix Summon Materia and a FFVII Rebirth weapon skin set. These carry over into Revelation automatically when it detects the earlier saves.

Story Expansion Pass and post-launch DLC

The Premium, Premium Plus, and Collector’s editions include the Story Expansion Pass, which grants two story-centered downloadable chapters. Both DLCs are planned to release between Winter 2027 and Spring 2028, and each will also be sold on its own after launch.

Story DLC 2Vincent and the TurksWinter 2027–Spring 2028

Director Naoki Hamaguchi said the DLC plans were shaped by fan and media requests after the game’s announcement, and that both add-ons dig deeper into the backstories of Sephiroth and Vincent rather than continuing the main narrative.

What’s new in the gameplay

Revelation opens up an open world on a much larger scale than the earlier games, and the airship Highwind is your main way to see it. You can pick where to drop and skydive down into cities, biomes, and remote regions across the planet. It’s the first time the trilogy lets you parachute onto the map.

Your chocobo, Piko, returns as both a mount and a combat ally, gaining new traversal and battle abilities as the party grows. On foot, a new grappling gun lets you quickly scale rooftops and move through cities.

Combat expands through the FITS system, short for Function-Integrated Tactical Suitwear. Equipping a FITS changes a character’s appearance and gives them a class-based move set drawn from classic Final Fantasy roles. There are four specialized options.

  • Warrior
  • Knight
  • Black Mage
  • Summoner

Cid Highwind and Vincent Valentine join as newly playable party members, with Cid fighting using a spear and Vincent relying on firearms and a beastly alternate form. You can now instantly swap the active character and change your party makeup while exploring, and you can choose which member takes on certain quests, which changes how some events and dialogue play out. The card game Queen’s Blood also returns with a new campaign centered on Red XIII and tougher opponents.

Where the story picks up

Revelation continues directly from Rebirth, following Cloud Strife and the party as they travel toward the Northern Crater for a final stand against Sephiroth. Meteor hangs over the world, the planetary guardians known as the Weapons are on the move, and the group races to stop the planet’s destruction. The journey adapts the remaining stretch of the original game, including visits to Wutai and Rocket Town that were absent from Rebirth.

If you’re planning to jump in for the finale, both earlier entries are already available across PS5, Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, and each includes streamlined progression options such as unlimited HP and MP to help newcomers catch up before April 8, 2027.
