Final Fantasy XIV: How to Start Occult Crescent North Horn (Patch 7.55)

The exact South Horn quests to clear and the unlock quest that opens the second Occult Crescent zone.

The exact South Horn quests to clear and the unlock quest that opens the second Occult Crescent zone.

Occult Crescent: North Horn is live in Final Fantasy XIV as part of patch 7.55, and it does not simply appear on your map when the update drops. You have to reach a specific point in the South Horn storyline first, then pick up a new quest that builds the path north. Here is exactly what needs to be done to get in.

Quick answer: Finish the South Horn quests through Past and Crescent and Mysteries Abide, then accept Occult Reunion from the Expedition Messenger in Tuliyollal (X:17.2, Y:11.8). Talk to Ketenramm and Joffrey to complete it, and North Horn is unlocked.

What you need before you start

North Horn is a level 100 field operation, the second zone in the Occult Crescent series after South Horn. Your combat job must be at max level, and your gear is synced to item level 700 once you are inside. You do not need to have cleared The Forked Tower: Blood to reach the new zone, so there is no high-end raid gate blocking entry.

Clear the South Horn story up to the right point

The unlock is a direct continuation of the South Horn questline, so the gate is your progress there. Two milestones matter. You need to finish Past and Crescent, and you need to finish Mysteries Abide, both given through Ketenramm in the Phantom Village.

Past and Crescent requires you to complete the Critical Encounter Calamity Bound and hand the voidsent contract to the Archive. If Calamity Bound is not up, you or another player must kill the Level 20 Crescent Inkstains in the southwestern corner of South Horn, near the Occult Cloister, to trigger the fight.

Mysteries Abide is the final quest of the South Horn arc and has no extra combat requirement beyond reaching it. Once both quests are done, the new content opens up on the mainland.

Pick up Occult Reunion in Tuliyollal

Head to Tuliyollal and go to the Expedition Messenger at X:17.2, Y:11.8. This is the same dockside spot you used to reach South Horn in the first place, and it is where the new quest waits.
Accept Occult Reunion. The story explains that a route has finally been opened to carry adventurers to the North Horn.
Talk to Ketenramm, then speak with Joffrey to wrap up the quest. Finishing this conversation unlocks Occult Crescent: North Horn.
Start the follow-up quest, The North Horn Beckons, which is the next step in the zone. This short quest sends you to talk to the Tonberry known as the Archive once you arrive.

How to confirm North Horn is unlocked

You know it worked when Occult Reunion completes and The North Horn Beckons appears as your next quest. From there you can travel into the new zone and reach its hub, the Phantom Village, with the North Horn entrance sitting at X:4.5, Y:6.6.

If the unlock quest is not showing up, the usual cause is unfinished South Horn progress. Both Past and Crescent and Mysteries Abide must be complete, and Past and Crescent will stall until Calamity Bound has been cleared and the voidsent contract delivered.

Come in prepared for level 20 enemies

The moment you step into North Horn, the nearest monsters are already Knowledge Level 20. Your South Horn Knowledge Level carries the weight here, so if you are underleveled you will struggle immediately. Spending time raising your Knowledge in South Horn before making the trip is the safest way to arrive ready.

Note: North Horn uses its own currencies, so the Silver and Gold pieces you banked in South Horn will not carry over for the new zone’s rewards. The Knowledge Level cap also rises to 40 here, giving you a fresh grind, along with new Phantom Jobs and the Forked Tower: Magic large-scale raid to work toward once the story progresses.
