Final Fantasy XIV: Where to Unlock Every Job and Class

Every combat, crafting, and limited job in FFXIV, with the quest name, city, coordinates, and level you need to claim each one.

Every combat, crafting, and limited job in FFXIV, with the quest name, city, coordinates, and level you need to claim each one.

Final Fantasy XIV lets a single character learn every job in the game, so nothing is locked behind a second playthrough. The catch is that each job sits behind a specific quest in a specific place, and some need a certain level or an expansion before the quest will even appear. Below is where to go for all of them, grouped by how you actually get access to them.

Quick answer: Pick up base classes at their guild in your starting city from level 1, complete the level 20 Main Scenario Quest “Sylph-management” and your class’s level 30 quest to unlock its job, then travel to the listed city and coordinates to accept later jobs once you meet the level requirement.

How classes turn into jobs

Classes are the starting roles you choose at character creation. A job is a straight upgrade to its class, keeping every skill the class had and adding stronger, job-only abilities on top. Once a job is unlocked, there is no reason to keep playing the base class in group content.

To turn a base class into its job, three things must be done. Reach level 30 in that class, finish all of its class quests up to level 30, and complete the level 20 Main Scenario Quest “Sylph-management.” Skip that story quest and the level 30 job quest simply will not show up.

Finishing the job quest rewards a Soul Crystal, also called a job stone. Equip it in your gear menu to transform the class into its job and gain access to the new skills. Jobs added in expansions work differently. They have no base class, hand you the Soul Crystal the moment you unlock them, and start you at a higher level than 1.

Note: level is shared between a job and its base class. Because Summoner and Scholar both come from Arcanist, leveling either one raises the other as well.

A Realm Reborn base classes and their cities

Your class choice decides your starting city. Every base class except Rogue can be picked at character creation. Rogue was added later, so you must start as another class, unlock class changing with the level 10 class quest, and reach Limsa Lominsa before you can take it up.

A Realm Reborn job quests (level 30)

Once a class hits level 30 with its class quests done, head to the matching city and coordinates to claim the job quest. Each row lists the exact location and the class quest you must have finished first.

Expansion jobs from Heavensward to Dawntrail

Every expansion adds jobs that have no base class. Instead of a level 30 requirement, they ask that you have any Disciple of War or Magic at a set level. Role does not matter. You can unlock a tank job while leveling a caster, for example. You do need to own the expansion the job belongs to, so no Dawntrail means no Viper or Pictomancer.

Note: the Heavensward jobs start you at level 30 even though the unlock needs a level 50 combat job, so expect a short stretch of catch-up leveling after you claim them.

Blue Mage and Beastmaster (limited jobs)

Blue Mage is the game’s limited job. It has a lower maximum level than standard jobs, cannot use the Duty Finder, and cannot progress the Main Story. In exchange, it fills tank, healer, or DPS roles depending on how you build its spell list. Unlock it in Limsa Lominsa, Lower Decks through the quest “Out of the Blue” after reaching level 50 on a Disciple of War or Magic and completing the Main Scenario Quest “The Ultimate Weapon.”

Beastmaster is being added as a second limited job, unlocked in Gridania. It follows the same pattern as Blue Mage, needing a level 50 combat job, completion of “The Ultimate Weapon,” and the Dawntrail expansion registered to your account. No official release date is currently confirmed.

Crafting and gathering jobs

The Disciples of the Hand and Land let the same character craft and gather everything they need. You can start picking these up from level 10, and each guild sits in one of the three main cities. Their quests all follow the “Way of the…” naming.

How to confirm a job unlocked

You know a combat job is yours once the job quest hands over its Soul Crystal, such as the Soul of the Warrior. Open your gear menu and equip that crystal in the job stone slot. Your class name changes to the job name and the job-specific skills appear on your action list.

If a level 30 job quest never appears, the usual cause is one missing requirement. You either have not finished every class quest up to level 30, or you have not completed “Sylph-management.” Clear both and the quest will surface at the guild. For expansion jobs, double-check that your combat job meets the listed level and that the correct expansion is active on your account.
