Everything you need to finish the three-quest Plaguereaver mastery and claim the Plaguecleaver skin in Fisch.

Everything you need to finish the three-quest Plaguereaver mastery and claim the Plaguecleaver skin in Fisch.

The Plaguereaver is a Stage 8 fishing rod in Fisch, and as of the August 15, 2026 Minor Update it now has its own mastery line. Finishing that line rerolls the rod into a much stronger tool, hands out a title and a cosmetic set of wings, and caps off with the Plaguecleaver skin as the grand prize. There are only three quests, but each one asks for a very specific catch or a long grind, so it pays to know exactly what triggers completion before you start.

Quick answer: Own the Plaguereaver, reach level 850, then complete Master of the Garden (Perfect Catch one Toxic Guardian), The Plague (catch 400 Plagued fish), and A Great Disturbance (contribute 25,000 Disturbance) with the rod equipped. Finishing all three unlocks the Plaguecleaver skin.

What you need before the Plaguereaver mastery unlocks

The mastery line does not appear until you actually own the rod. You get the Plaguereaver by finishing the questline from the Plagued Reaper NPC inside the Toxic Grove, which itself sits behind a chain of earlier objectives and a 13,750,000 C$ payment at the end. Only after the rod is in your inventory can you open its mastery tab.

There is also a separate gate on the mastery itself. The starting level requirement is 850, which is higher than the level 650 needed to unlock the rod in the first place. If the mastery quests are greyed out, check your level before anything else.

For reference, here is where the Plaguereaver stands as a rod, since its base stats shape how you tackle the mastery quests.

All three Plaguereaver mastery quests and rewards

The mastery is three quests deep. Each one grants its own reward, and clearing all three releases the grand prize on top. You must have the Plaguereaver equipped for progress to count on every quest.

Master of the Garden: Perfect Catch a Toxic Guardian

This quest wants a single Perfect Catch of a Toxic Guardian, and a normal catch will not register. The Toxic Guardian only appears during the Toxic Guardian Hunt, so the timing of the event matters more than raw grinding here.

Head to the Living Garden and wait for the Toxic Guardian Hunt to become active. Keep an eye on the event notifications so you cast during the correct window.
Equip the Plaguereaver and load a Toxic Jelly Core or a Thorn Cluster as bait. Either one raises your odds of hooking the Toxic Guardian while the hunt runs.
Land the reel as a Perfect Catch. The quest ticks over as soon as one Toxic Guardian is landed cleanly, so a single successful attempt clears it.

The Plague: Catch 400 Plagued fish

This is the long grind of the set. You need 400 fish carrying the Plagued mutation, all caught with the Plaguereaver. The rod applies the Plagued mutation naturally, with a 15% chance on each catch, so there is no separate bait trick required beyond fishing volume.

Because roughly one in seven catches will be Plagued, expect to reel in a large number of fish overall. Anywhere the Plaguereaver can fish works, so pick a spot with fast bites and keep casting until the counter hits 400. Clearing this quest hands over the Plague Doctor Title.

A Great Disturbance: Contribute 25,000 Disturbance

Disturbance builds up on its own as you fish, and the Plaguereaver is well suited to this quest thanks to its base +5 Disturbance stat. Every cast with the rod feeds the total, and reaching a cumulative 25,000 Disturbance closes out the objective.

Fishing with the Plaguereaver in areas where Disturbance drives fish spawns is the most efficient way to rack this up. Since the +2 Disturbance bonus from Master of the Garden stacks onto the rod, clearing that quest first speeds this one along. The reward for hitting 25,000 is the Wings of Wrath.

Claiming the Plaguecleaver skin

Once all three quests read as complete in the mastery tab, the Plaguecleaver skin unlocks as the grand reward. There is no extra objective beyond the three above, so the skin appears the moment the last quest is finished. You will also be holding the Plague Doctor Title, the Wings of Wrath, and the permanent stat boosts from Master of the Garden.

Note: the biggest time sink is The Plague, so if you want a steady sense of progress, run it alongside A Great Disturbance since both build up simply by fishing with the rod. Save Master of the Garden for a window when the Toxic Guardian Hunt is active, and you can knock the whole mastery out without wasting casts.
