Resonus is the descendant stationed in the Veil of the Forsaken, the fifth and final layer of Mariana’s Veil, and his catch quest is one of the five you have to clear during the Mariana’s Awakening questline. It is also the one most players get stuck on, because the fish he asks for live in a pool where almost everything fights back, and the weather has to cooperate.

Quick answer: Fish the Veil of the Forsaken with the Leviathan’s Fang Rod and Worm bait, use a Smokescreen Totem to force heavy fog, land the Gargoyle Goby and a Wraith-Whisper Ray, then talk to Resonus.

What you need before starting the Resonus quest

Resonus cannot be reached until the Veil of the Forsaken itself is open, and that is a multi-step unlock rather than a simple boat ride. The questline as a whole begins in Roslit Bay with Vaelor, who sends you to investigate the glowing mineral veins running through all five layers.

  • A Submarine upgraded far enough to reach the Calm Zone.
  • The first puzzle cleared: the stone obby south of the Calm Zone, then the lava gate opened with a Magma Leviathan, a Frozen Leviathan, and a Crowned Anglerfish placed on the pedestals.
  • The second puzzle cleared: all four chess statues pushed into their green positions within one minute, which opens the trapdoor.
  • The Scylla boss beaten once, which permanently opens the pool for fishing.
  • Enough bait stocked up, since the layer has no Inn Keeper of its own.

Progress on both puzzles and the gate saves across servers, so you only have to do them once per account. The Calm Zone Inn Keeper sits close enough to use as your save point before dropping down.

Rod, companion, and bait setup for Resonus

Every descendant quest in Mariana’s Awakening is built around that layer’s own rod, and for Resonus that means the Leviathan’s Fang Rod. It is sold right at the entrance to the Veil of the Forsaken for 350,000 C$, so budget for it before you commit to the dive.

These quests also ask for mutated versions of the fish, not plain ones. Equipping the Mutated Sharky companion raises your mutation chance and is the single most useful thing you can bring alongside the rod.

Weather is the other half of the setup. Both target fish cooperate under heavy fog, and rather than waiting for the cycle to turn, a Smokescreen Totem forces it on the spot. Worm is the bait you want loaded for this trip.

Gargoyle Goby and Wraith-Whisper Ray catch conditions

Resonus wants two species, and they sit at opposite ends of the rarity scale. The Goby shows up constantly; the Ray is the one that decides how long your session runs.

Both are new additions to the Mariana’s Veil bestiary, and both are pulled from the same Veil of the Forsaken water. Legendary and mythical spawns in this layer are genuinely uncommon, so the Ray is a patience check more than a skill check.

How to complete the Resonus catches

Drop into the Veil of the Forsaken and buy the Leviathan’s Fang Rod at the entrance if you do not already own it. Equip it along with the Mutated Sharky companion before you cast anything.
Place a Smokescreen Totem near the pool to bring in heavy fog, then select Worm bait. Leave the fog running for as long as you intend to fish.
Start casting for the Gargoyle Goby. It is the common of the pair, so most of your early bites will be it, and you can bank the required mutated catches here while you wait on the rarer spawn.

Keep fishing the same spot until a Wraith-Whisper Ray hooks. Nearly everything in this layer carries a negative progress speed, so a rod with strong resilience makes the minigame far less punishing.
Once both entries are logged, glide back across the cavern to Resonus and hand the quest in.

Quest progress rules: Glitched Potions and duplicate catches

Two rules quietly waste a lot of time here, and neither is signposted in game.

  • Glitched Potions do not work in the Veil of the Forsaken, so drinking one before the quest gains you nothing.
  • Duplicated catches only register as a single catch toward the quest counter, no matter how many copies land in your inventory.

Because duplicates collapse into one, do not count a stack of identical fish as finished progress. Check the quest tracker itself after each catch.

Rewards: 50,000 XP and the Veiled Gauntlets

Handing the catches back pays out 50,000 XP and the Veiled Gauntlets, the layer’s entry in the five-gauntlet set. The dialogue box that appears on turn-in spells out the gauntlet’s effect, and the gauntlets landing in your inventory is your confirmation that the quest closed properly.

That gauntlet is not a standalone trophy. The five descendants — Ignis at the Volcanic Vents, Glacius at Challenger’s Deep, Tenebris at the Abyssal Zenith, Luminis at the Calm Zone, and Resonus here — each hand over one, and clearing all five is what carries you toward the Crevice Wall riddle, the layer gems, and the Abyss Gate into the Obsidian Trench. If Resonus is your last one, the deeper layer is the next thing waiting.
