Fishing rods are the core of your progression in Fish an Anime RNG. Each one carries three stats — Luck, Speed, and Total Strength — that decide which anime characters you can pull and how quickly you reel them in. There are nine rods in total, starting with the Steel Rod you get in the tutorial and ending with the Rod of Heaven’s.

Where each rod fits in your progression
The Steel Rod is your starting rod, handed to you during the tutorial so you can catch your first character. It is the weakest option, but it earns enough Cash to move you onto the Iron Rod, which is the first real upgrade.
The Ice Rod and Amethyst Rod cover the early-to-mid game. The Amethyst Rod is a notable jump because its 5.5x Speed makes catching much faster than the beginner rods. From there, the Gold, Ruby, Astral, and Void Rods form the mid-to-late game climb, each one raising Luck and Total Strength while keeping Speed at 7.5x.
The Rod of Heaven’s sits at the top as the endgame rod. Its Luck jump over the Void Rod is massive, which is why it is the best choice for chasing the rarest characters once you meet its Rebirth requirement.
What Luck, Speed, and Total Strength do
- Luck sets the rarities you can catch. Higher Luck improves your odds of pulling Mythic, Cosmic, and Secret characters, making it the most important stat.
- Speed controls how fast a catch resolves. The higher the Speed, the fewer clicks you need to reel a character in.
- Total Strength caps the maximum weight you can catch. A rod with low Strength cannot land high-rarity units that weigh too much.
Note: A rod’s Luck is boosted further during player-triggered events like Hell’s Gate, Party, and Sakura Season. Cast with your best rod while one of these events is active to make the most of the higher pull rates.
How to unlock and buy fishing rods
You know a purchase worked when the rod becomes equipped and its stats replace your previous rod in the shop. A rod that still shows a Rebirth requirement cannot be bought yet, no matter how much Cash you hold — the only fix is to Rebirth enough times to meet the number listed.
Work through the rods in order, prioritizing Luck upgrades so your pulls improve as fast as your Rebirth count allows. The Rod of Heaven’s is the clear finish line, but each earlier rod keeps your catches moving until you get there.
