The Elemental Hydra is the top-rarity catch added to Fish It with the Elemental Expansion, and it lives behind a locked gate on Elemental Island. Getting to it involves two separate problems. First you have to open Hydra’s Throne Room, which is a collection task. Then you have to make the Hydra encounter fire at all, which is a coordination task that no solo player can complete.
Quick answer: Place the Fire, Ice, and Storm Elemental Crystals on their matching podiums on Elemental Island to open the gate permanently, then have at least three players fishing at once, one in each elemental zone, to activate the Elemental Hydra.
Unlock Hydra’s Throne Room on Elemental Island
The gate is a straight three-item puzzle. There is no quest chain, no level requirement, and no fee. You need all three crystals in hand and you need to seat each one on the podium that matches its element.
You know it worked when the gate is open and you can walk into the throne room. That access is permanent. You do not need to re-collect the crystals on later sessions, and you do not need to redo the placement each time you join a server.

Add to Google Preferences →The three-player rule that activates the Elemental Hydra
Standing inside the throne room and casting a line is not enough. The Elemental Hydra is a group encounter, and the activation condition is specific: three players minimum, with at least one of them fishing in each of the three elemental zones — Fire, Ice, and Storm — at the same time. If a zone is empty, the encounter does not trigger for anyone.
The Fire zone is the lava pool, and it fishes like any other spot while you wait for the group to fill out. Normal catches keep rolling in — Big Molten Parrotfish and its shiny variant are common pulls there.

The system scales up to 15 players. More people in the room means better odds of triggering the encounter, so a full or near-full group is worth organizing rather than running the bare minimum of three.
Note: Keep the three zones balanced. Piling everyone into one element does not help, and zone balance is what feeds into the rarest Hydra combination.

Elemental Hydra catch odds
The numbers are the part most players underestimate. These are not tuned to be caught in a session.
| Combination | Odds |
|---|---|
| Most Hydra combinations | 1 in 40,000,000 |
| 1 Fire + 1 Ice + 1 Storm (rarest) | 1 in 45,000,000 |
Because the odds sit in the tens of millions, the realistic approach is a long-term group grind rather than a targeted hunt. In the meantime the room pays out its own catch pool — 15 fish were added exclusively to Hydra’s Throne Room, spanning Mythic, Legendary, and Epic rarities across all three elements. Cinderplate Coelacanth and Basalt Ghost Shark are among the pulls you will log along the way.

Bonuses that improve your Hydra attempts
Two rewards from the Elemental Spin are directly useful here, and they do different jobs.
| Reward | What it does |
|---|---|
| Elemental Convergence | An ability that raises the chance of triggering a Critical Catch while fishing. |
| Hydra Fishing Pet | Its center head fishes alongside you; its outer heads apply a Forgotten Luck Pool to your fishing spot. |
The Elemental Spin also carries a new fishing rod, boat, lantern, and halo. Of the set, Elemental Convergence and the Hydra pet are the two that actually move the needle on a Forgotten-tier hunt, since one adds Critical Catches and the other seeds the Forgotten luck pool where you are standing.

Why the Hydra encounter fails to start
When nothing happens after a long stretch of casting, the cause is almost always one of a small number of conditions rather than bad luck.
- Fewer than three players are present. The encounter cannot be activated alone or in a pair.
- One of the three elemental zones is unoccupied, so the Fire, Ice, and Storm requirement is not met.
- All three crystals have not been seated on their podiums, so the gate to the throne room is still closed.
The Elemental Expansion also shipped fixes that matter if the island has been behaving strangely for you. Lighting was improved for cases where several equipment effects are active at the same time, and extra glitch prevention was added across Elemental Island.
Treat the Elemental Hydra as a standing group activity rather than a checklist item. The gate opens once and stays open, so the real cost is the time you and 14 other people spend keeping all three zones filled while the odds run their course.
