Fishing is a separate money loop in Storage Hunters Open World that sits alongside the usual auction grind. You win fishing rods from Farmyard containers, wait for the Fishing Season event, then catch fish at the Lake and sell them for cash. It gives newer players a second income path when the early auction economy feels slow.
Quick answer: Reach $10,000 net worth to unlock Farmyard auctions, win a working Fishing Rod from those containers, then head to the Lake during a Fishing Season event and complete the catch mini-game to reel in fish you can sell.
Fishing requirements: $10,000 net worth
The single gate for fishing is a $10,000 net worth. That threshold is what opens Farmyard auctions, and Farmyard is the only place rods drop. Without it you cannot bid on the containers that hold rods, so you cannot fish at all. Grow your net worth through normal auctions first, then move on to the Farmyard.
You also need an operational Fishing Rod in your inventory before the Fisherman NPC at the Lake will talk to you. Meeting the net worth alone is not enough to start his quests.

Add to Google Preferences →How to get Fishing Rods from Farmyard auctions
Fishing Rods come only from winning Farmyard auctions and opening the containers you buy. Two versions turn up inside those lockers. Broken Fishing Rods cannot be used to fish, and working Fishing Rods can. Collect as many working rods as you can and hold them in your inventory until Fishing Season begins.
Rods wear down with use. Every working rod eventually breaks after a random number of casts, and how long it lasts depends on its condition. Once a rod breaks, you cannot repair it, so the best move is to sell the Broken Fishing Rod and recover part of your money.
Rods come in three tiers. Higher rarity means more catches before the rod gives out.
| Rod tier | Effect |
|---|---|
| Rare | Fewest catches per rod |
| Epic | More catches per session |
| Legendary | Most catches before breaking |
Note: Mutations that appear on a rod change only the sell value of the rod itself. They do not affect the rarity or value of the fish you catch.
Catching fish at the Lake during Fishing Season
Fish are caught at the Lake, and only while the Fishing Season event is active. The event triggers at random and runs for 12 minutes, which is enough time to land several high-rarity, high-value fish in one window. Keep working rods ready so you can start the moment it begins.

The same casting works in other bodies of water across the map, where you can pull up different items instead of fish.
Selling fish for money
Treat every fish as a regular item once it is in your inventory. You have two ways to turn a catch into cash. Take it to the Quick Sell shop at the Shopping Mall for instant money, or place it on the display slots at your own shop and sell it to visiting customers. The same choice applies to Broken Fishing Rods, which are worth selling rather than keeping.
Fisherman NPC quests at the Lake
The Fisherman NPC stands on the dock at the Lake and hands out fishing quests. You can only interact with him once you have both the $10,000 net worth and a working Fishing Rod in your inventory. Some of his tasks can be completed during normal play, while others are meant for the Fishing Season window.

He offers two main objectives. The first asks you to fish 100 items, and the second asks you to catch fish worth $50,000 in total. Finishing his quests pays out random rewards, including Cash, Gems, and Luck Boosts.
| Fisherman quest | Requirement |
|---|---|
| First quest | Fish 100x items |
| Second quest | Catch fish worth $50,000 in total |
Common fishing questions
Can you repair a broken fishing rod?
No. A broken rod cannot be fixed and cannot be used to fish. The only use left is to sell it and recover part of your investment.
Do rod mutations change the fish you catch?
No. A mutation on a rod only raises or lowers the sell price of that rod. The rarity and value of your catch stay the same.
What should you do with the fish you catch?
Sell them. Fish behave like any other item, so you can Quick Sell them at the Shopping Mall or list them at your own shop for customers to buy.
The rhythm that works best is simple. Stockpile working rods from Farmyard runs, keep them in your inventory, and the moment Fishing Season starts, head to the Lake and burn through the 12-minute window before your rods break. Sell the fish, sell the broken rods, and let the Fisherman’s quests top you up with Gems and Luck along the way.
