Flax Fiber is the feeder resource for Linen Fabric in Windrose, and hauling it back from the Foothills every time you need cloth gets old fast. The fix is to bring the plant home: collect Flax Seeds from wild plants, build a Seedbed, and grow your own supply near the crafting bench.

What Flax Fiber is used for
Flax Fiber feeds directly into tailoring. Three fibers go into a spinning wheel to produce one Linen Fabric, with a craft time of roughly 30 seconds per unit. The spinning wheel needs to be placed under a roof and inside the bonfire range, otherwise it won't run. Linen Fabric is the base material for tailored armor and gear upgrades, so a steady fiber supply is what unlocks that whole progression tier.
Prerequisites before you farm
Access to the Foothills biome is gated behind the first boss fight. Once that's cleared, the biome opens up, and both Fertile Soil and wild Flax become reachable. You'll also want a pickaxe for digging soil and, ideally, a shovel for leveling ground before placing a Seedbed.
While you're gathering soil in the Foothills, several building recipes unlock automatically, including the Seedbed itself. That's why the soil trip comes first in the loop.

Gathering wild Flax and seeds
Wild Flax plants grow throughout the Foothills and are easy to spot: tall stalks topped with blue flowers. The southern stretch around Blackbeard Water has dense clusters if you want to batch a run.
Step 1: Enter the Foothills and watch for the blue flower tops. Walk up to a plant and press E to harvest it.

Step 2: Keep picking. Each harvest gives between three and six Flax Fibers, and there's a chance to also receive Flax Seeds. Seeds don't drop every time, so collect more plants than you think you need.
Step 3: While you're in the area, dig up any tile that surfaces the "Fertile Soil" prompt. Use your pickaxe on the spot to add soil to your inventory. The zones outside the Ancient Ruins are the reliable spawn area.

Alternate sources of Flax Fiber
| Source | Yield | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Wild Flax plant (Foothills) | 3–6 fibers per harvest | Guaranteed drop; chance at seeds |
| Ashlin starting chest (POI ruins) | 20 fibers | One-time guaranteed stack |
| Unknown Trader crate | 30 fibers per crate | 25 Piastres for 1, up to 250 Piastres for 10 |
| Home Seedbed | Repeatable | Requires Flax Seeds and Fertile Soil |
Setting up the Seedbed at your base
Once you have seeds and at least 5 Fertile Soil, head back to your base. The Seedbed is the piece of infrastructure that turns a one-off gather into a renewable crop.
Step 1: Open the Building panel and go to the Farming section. Select the Seedbed. The recipe costs 1 Seedbed frame plus 5 Fertile Soil.

Step 2: Pick a placement spot near your crafting area. If the ground is uneven and the placement preview shows red or tilted, swap to a shovel and flatten the tile before trying again.

Step 3: With the Seedbed placed, reopen the Farming menu and select Flax Seeds to plant them into the bed. The crop will grow over a few in-game hours, after which you can harvest Flax Fibers directly at home.
Turning fiber into Linen Fabric
Once fibers are stocked, the spinning wheel closes the loop. Place the wheel indoors with a roof overhead and keep it inside the radius of a lit bonfire. Feed it 3 Flax Fibers per Linen Fabric and let the 30-second craft run. Scaling output is mostly a matter of parallel Seedbeds feeding a single wheel.

Common reasons the loop stalls
If your Seedbed refuses to place, the terrain is uneven and needs a shovel pass. If the spinning wheel shows as inactive, check that it's under a roof and that a bonfire is lit within range. If seeds aren't appearing after gathering, keep harvesting more wild plants, since the seed drop is not guaranteed on every pick.
With one soil trip and a handful of seeds, the Foothills stop being a commute and start being optional. From there, Linen Fabric production scales with however many Seedbeds you want to line up next to the spinning wheel.
