Forbidding Doors of Melancholy is the fifth quest in the In the Dwelling of Life chain in Genshin Impact 7.0. It sends you into the assembly hall to fight through one boss, solve a short sequence of chandelier and switch puzzles, and disarm a trap alongside Nastya. The quest is brief, and finishing it hands over Primogems along with upgrade materials.
Quick answer: Ride the lift up, defeat Furiosa, pull down two chandeliers with the Grappling Gun to reach both curtain switches, activate both on Paimon’s countdown, feed a cube under the wall dial to ride the elevator, then defeat the enemies and install the item Nastya finds on the pedestal to disable the trap.
How to unlock Forbidding Doors of Melancholy
The quest begins the moment you finish Back on One’s Feet, the fourth quest in the chain. There is no separate trigger to hunt down. Once the previous quest closes, Forbidding Doors of Melancholy starts immediately at the lift leading up to the assembly hall.
Defeat Furiosa. Slide and dodge to avoid her attacks, and use the healing and ammo drops scattered across the arena to stay alive. After the fight, push open the gate to enter the assembly hall.
Investigate the doors together with Nastya. Wait while she works around to the other side and opens a path for you.
Solve the chandelier and curtain switch puzzle
Two curtain switches sit on opposite sides of the hall, and both must be triggered at the same time. Reaching each one relies on the Grappling Gun to lower and ride the chandeliers.
Head back down to the lower level and use the grappling point on the chandelier to rise again. Summon a Grappling Gun to pull the second chandelier, then get on it.
Speak with Paimon and let her run a countdown. Activate both switches when the count reaches one so they fire together. The door opens only when both are triggered on the same beat.
Pick up the item Nastya recovers and install it on the pedestal to remove the trap. This triggers a cutscene and ends the quest.
Note: You know the quest is complete when the cutscene plays and the reward screen appears. To Rest in a Forgotten Field, the sixth quest in the chain, unlocks right after.
