Epic added the Birthday Sprite’s data with update v42.20 on September 17, 2026, but left it inactive. It goes live Saturday, September 26, matching Battle Royale’s original launch day in 2017. So if you played just after v42.20 and couldn’t locate it, that was normal.

Where the Birthday Sprite spawns on the island
The Birthday Sprite’s listed habitat is high and mountainous areas, the same terrain band the Season 4 launch roster uses. Focus on ridgelines, peaks, and elevated rock formations instead of low towns or coastline.
Roaming in the wild is not your only option: chests and Cheat Codes can yield the Sprite, regardless of biome. Search around Birthday Cake spots such as Chopped Shop as well, since anniversary areas tend to have higher activity. The Rare-tier Sprite has a base spawn rate of about 4 percent, making it much more common than higher-rarity Sprites.

How to confirm the Birthday Sprite is yours
Once back in the lobby, visit the Sprites menu. A successful extraction adds the Birthday Sprite to your collection, along with its rarity and current level. If its entry remains empty after a match, the extraction failed to register and you lost it. Before launch, the same menu displays a discovery countdown for Sprites that are not active yet.
What the Birthday Sprite does when equipped
With the Birthday Sprite equipped, opening chests may produce a slice of Birthday Cake, which restores 20 health or shield. Each level-up increases the chance. At maximum level, eliminations may also drop cake, helping you stay topped up between fights when playing aggressively.
You level the base Sprite by doing normal match tasks such as searching chests, entering Cheat Codes, and extracting other Sprites. Here is how the cake chance scales.

There is no admin panel code for the Birthday Sprite
This is an easy point to confuse. You cannot get the Birthday Sprite itself from a Lobby Hack admin panel code; it must be found during a match. The anniversary code 9YEARS unlocks the 9th Birthday Sprite Spray, a separate cosmetic rather than the Sprite.
How the Birthday Sprite fits the 9th Birthday event
Fortnite’s 9th Birthday event began on September 21 and is scheduled to run until around October 1. Birthday Quests progress alongside normal play and appear on the Quests tab. Their objectives include eating Birthday Cake, throwing Birthday Presents, deploying Balloons, and thanking the Bus Driver.
Quest completions hit reward thresholds at three, six, and nine: the Choco-9 Cake Back Bling comes at three, the Cake Crusher Pickaxe at six, and the FNCS Sentry Back Bling at nine.
The fifth reward is tied to the Birthday Sprite. To earn the 9th Birthday Skin, master 28 Sprites collected in Chapter 7 Season 4; every extraction counts toward the requirement, including Birthday Sprites. Sprites mastered earlier in the season remain eligible. This goal is separate from Battle Pass rewards, which you advance on their own.
Every Sprite you extract also lands in your Sprite collection for the season, so leveling the Birthday Sprite does double duty: it keeps you healed in the moment and edges you closer to the anniversary skin.
