The “outlast players at night” objective is one of the trickier Hot Bat Summer challenges in Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 3, mostly because you can’t control when the island turns dark. It isn’t about winning. It’s about staying alive while the sun is down and letting the counter climb, match after match.

Quick answer: Outlast a combined total of 75 players while it is nighttime on the island. Progress carries over between rounds, so you don’t need to hit 75 in a single match. Play safe on nighttime maps, avoid fights, and the quest completes on its own.

What the quest actually requires

Completion is tied to a running player count, not a match result. Every opponent who is eliminated while you are still alive and it is night on the island adds to your total. You need 75 of those to finish the challenge and move closer to claiming the full set of Hot Bat Summer rewards.

Two rules make this manageable. First, you do not have to win. If you survive to, say, 40th place during a night round, every player who dropped out before you counts. Second, the tally is cumulative, so a strong nighttime match plus a few smaller ones will get you there over time.

Getting a nighttime match

There’s no toggle, playlist, or setting that forces a night round. Some matches simply start in darkness, while others shift into night as the round goes on. It comes down to chance, so the smart play is to make the most of every nighttime map you land on.

Check the sky as soon as you drop. If the sun is high and bright, it’s daytime and this challenge won’t progress. If the sky has turned deep blue or the sun is sinking behind the storm, night is arriving and your survival will start counting toward the total.

Solo mode is the cleaner choice here. You control every decision, there’s no squad drawing attention, and the remaining-player count in the top corner tells you exactly how many opponents are left as the match thins out.

How to survive long enough at night

Since the payout is tied to outliving others, treat a night round purely as a survival exercise. Skip the fights, avoid busy points of interest, and prioritize staying alive over loot or eliminations.

Land far from the Battle Bus path, ideally on the outer edges of the map where few players bother to go. The water around the island is one of the safest spots, because opponents rarely swim out to explore it.

Hug the edge of the storm for most of the round. The further out you sit, the fewer players you’ll run into, which keeps you alive while the count of remaining opponents drops.
Watch the remaining-player number and keep moving with the circle. As long as you stay out of gunfights and don’t get caught in the storm, your outlasted total keeps rising in the background.

Tip: If night falls partway through a match you’ve already been surviving well, you don’t need to change anything. Just keep playing cautiously, because every player eliminated after dark now counts.

How to know it worked

After each night round, glance at the number next to the quest in the Quests tab. It should climb by however many players you outlasted during the dark portion of that match. Once it reaches 75, the challenge marks as complete and the reward unlocks.

If the counter doesn’t move, the most likely reason is that it was still daytime when your opponents were eliminated, or you died early before enough players dropped out. Wait for a genuine night map, survive deeper into the round, and the progress will register.

Because the total stacks across games, there’s no pressure to force everything in one lucky night match. Play safe whenever darkness rolls around, keep to the edges, and the 75-player requirement clears steadily on its way to the rest of the Hot Bat Summer rewards.
