The Override trailer is here, and it turns Fortnite into a playable arcade cabinet. Jonesy falls into a digital world stuffed with classic gaming icons, cartridge-powered rule changes, and a villain who has been waiting for his rematch. Here is what the reveal actually confirmed for Chapter 7 Season 4.

Quick answer: Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4 Override launches on August 20, 2026, and the trailer confirms crossovers with Sonic, Mega Man, Persona 5, Crash Bandicoot, and more, plus new Sprites, cartridge “Match Hacks,” and retro weapons.

Override release date

Epic Games released the Override trailer on August 16, 2026, and the season goes live on August 20, 2026. The Battle Pass unlocks the moment the update drops, while most crossover cosmetics arrive in the Item Shop on a rolling schedule through the season. No official times beyond the launch date have been confirmed for the individual Item Shop releases.

Every confirmed Chapter 7 Season 4 collab

The theme is a celebration of gaming legends, and the lineup is one of the largest crossover rosters Fortnite has assembled in years. The long-rumored Kingdom Hearts crossover was not in the trailer, with Crash Bandicoot and Spyro appearing instead.

Mortal Kombat characters, including Scorpion and Raiden, also appear in the trailer, and a Cyberpunk 2077 billboard featuring Male V hints at a return for that crossover during the season.

Battle Pass skins

Only a couple of the crossovers land in the Battle Pass itself. Sonic and the Tetris outfit are the headline licensed skins, and the Tetris cosmetic is customizable in the style of the old Toona Fish outfit. Geno appears as a Battle Pass skin as well, alongside several original outfits shown in the reveal, including a fighter, a shielded warrior, a kart racer, and a soldier rumored to be a Jonesy the Legend outfit. Everything else on the collab list is expected to sell separately in the Item Shop.

New Sprites and Sidekicks

A fresh batch of Sprites and Sidekicks joins the season as helper characters. The Tails Sidekick uses magnetism to pull in items, while Spyro tags along as a Sidekick tied to the Crash Bandicoot crossover. Expect plenty of visits to the Sprite Garden to collect them all.

Weapons and Mythics

The retro theme carries into the loot pool. An 8-bit shotgun even shows an on-screen score tracker when fired, complete with a combo counter. Two of the new guns tie into the Cyberpunk 2077 crossover.

Lobby Hacks, cartridges, and Match Hacks

Override introduces two layers of rule-bending. Lobby Hacks let you enter input codes that alter the game’s rules from the terminal screen shown at the start of the trailer. In matches, a cartridge appears and gets plugged into the game, and whichever cartridge is active applies a specific Match Hack across the entire lobby.

Three cartridges are known so far, drawing from Tetris, Sonic, and Mortal Kombat. Dropping one can reshape the terrain, spawn a 1UP coin objective, or force an arcade-style 1v1 fight. Rows of Tetris blocks also heal your character, which may connect to a Junk Rift-style item or stand on its own.

New map and POIs

The map gets a gaming makeover. A spire-like tower now sits at the center where the Zero Point used to be, with wires running up to a floating eye in the sky. Around it you can spot a Sonic-themed Green Hill Zone POI, a Pac-Man beach, and a city district covered in Sonic and Tails billboards.

Geno returns as the season boss

Geno drives the story this season and shows up as a major in-game boss with his own dedicated health bar. He has teamed up with Dr. Eggman, and his crew includes the Wendigo from the 99 Nights in the Forest collab. The trailer closes with Geno shooting Jonesy, who then wakes up in a hospital bed beside Peely, framing the whole digital adventure as a coma. It is the setup for the season’s fight to reclaim the Loop.

With the Battle Pass live at launch and Item Shop crossovers rolling out over the following weeks, the Override season keeps the surprises coming well past August 20. Keep an eye out as Epic confirms names, prices, and release windows for each licensed skin closer to their drops.
