One of the Week 4 weekly highlight quests in Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 3 asks you to use the lighthouse beam to reveal a hidden Rare Chest and search it. The trick is that the chest only exists for a few seconds while the rotating beam is pointed at it, so timing and positioning decide whether you finish in one match or keep running in circles.
Quick answer: Go to the lighthouse on the west side of Calamari Canyon, climb to the top, interact with the lamp to ignite it, then open one of the Rare Chests that appears on the rocks to the north-west when the beam sweeps over them. Opening a single chest completes the quest and awards 12,000 XP.
Lighthouse location in Calamari Canyon
The lighthouse sits inside the Calamari Canyon point of interest, near the coast on the western edge of the island. It is a tall red and white tower that stands out against the yellow desert terrain, so it is easy to spot once you are in the area.
The fastest approach is to drop straight from the Battle Bus and glide onto the top balcony. If you are already on the ground, head inside and take the stairs all the way up to the top floor.

Ignite the lamp and open a Rare Chest

How the beam and chests work
The chests are hidden until the beam illuminates them, then they vanish again once the light rotates away. They reappear every time the beam circles back, so missing one is not a problem. Wait for the light to point at a spawn point again, or move on to the other chest.

Confirming the quest is done and why it may not trigger
The moment you open a chest revealed by the beam, the quest objective pops and the 12,000 XP is banked toward your Chapter 7 Season 3 Battle Pass. If it does not register, the most common reasons are simple to fix.
- You are at the wrong lighthouse. Only the one in Calamari Canyon works for this quest.
- You opened a regular chest instead of one lit up by the beam. Only beam-marked Rare Chests count.
- You were too far away and the chest despawned before you reached it. Use the roof Launch Pad and wait for the beam to point at a chest before launching.
Once you have searched a chest and seen the objective complete, you can head back out and pick up the rest of the Week 4 challenges. These quests stay available until the final day of the season, so there is no rush if the lighthouse is busy early in a match.
