Fortnite Portable Extractor: How Extraction Gizmos Bank Your Sprites

The Portable Extractor lets you bank an equipped Sprite from anywhere on the Shattered Coast in five seconds.

The Portable Extractor lets you bank an equipped Sprite from anywhere on the Shattered Coast in five seconds.

Extraction Gizmos are the fast lane for banking Sprites in Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 3. Instead of hauling a Sprite across the Shattered Coast to a fixed Extraction Site, the Portable Extractor turns that whole trip into a quick five-second hold wherever you happen to be standing. It is the only Gizmo live right now, and it solves the single biggest problem with collecting rare Sprites: surviving the walk to a terminal.

Quick answer: Equip a Sprite, then hold the Portable Extractor in your pickaxe slot (hold Y/Triangle on controller, L on PC) and stay still for five seconds. The Sprite banks to your permanent collection from any spot on the map.

What Extraction Gizmos do in Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 3

Extraction Gizmos are consumable items that shortcut or supercharge Sprite extractions. They sit in your pickaxe slot when you jump from the Battle Bus, the same slot the Golden Fireworks used during Community Day. You cannot trade them, and you do not drop them when eliminated, so there is no risk of losing one mid-match.

Your Gizmo inventory carries over between matches and stays with you all season, but it wipes when the season ends. There is no reason to hoard them. Three Gizmos are planned, and each one handles a different part of the extraction loop.

Extraction Gizmo What it does Availability
Portable Extractor Creates a personal extraction point so you can bank your equipped Sprite anywhere on the island. Available now
Lucky Locator Tracks down a buried chest guaranteed to hold a Sprite you have not collected yet. Later this season
Extraction Site Booster Calls in a special Extraction Crate that boosts any Sprite extracted at that spot, which draws other players in. Later this season

The Lucky Locator and Extraction Site Booster are not in the game yet. Epic will add them as the season progresses.

How to use a Portable Extractor in Fortnite

The Portable Extractor only works on a Sprite you are actively carrying, so you need one equipped first. Once it is on your back, the rest takes seconds.

Find a Sprite from a chest, floor loot, a Sprite chest, or by eliminating an enemy who is carrying one. Pick it up so it rides on your character and its power activates.
Make sure that Sprite is the one currently equipped. The Portable Extractor banks whatever Sprite you have on you at that moment.
Equip the Portable Extractor from your pickaxe slot. Hold Y/Triangle on controller or L on PC to swap it in.
Stand still and wait out the five-second timer while the Sprite extracts. When it finishes, the Sprite drops into your permanent collection and you earn Sprite Dust.

Note: The five-second window leaves you exposed and unable to fight back cleanly. Clear nearby enemies or pop the extractor behind cover before you start, especially for a Legendary or Mythic Sprite you do not want to lose.

How to confirm the extraction worked

A successful extraction adds the Sprite to your Collection and credits Sprite Dust, the currency you spend before a match to summon Sprites you already own. Once a Sprite is banked, it is yours for good and cannot be lost.

Until you complete that timer, the Sprite is temporary. If you get eliminated while still carrying an un-extracted Sprite, you drop it on the spot and any other player can grab it. That is the most common reason an extraction never lands, so finish the hold before pushing a fight.

How to get more Extraction Gizmos

You will not find Extraction Gizmos in chests or floor loot. There are two reliable ways to stock up, and both run through the Sprite system itself.

The main source is Sprite Mastery. Extracting a Sprite at Max Level 5 pushes you along the Mastery track, which hands out multiple Gizmos as you progress. The other option is the Sprite Dust Services found at any Extraction Site, where leftover Sprite Dust from your runs can be spent directly on more Gizmos. Completing Bonus Goals quests also feeds into your Gizmo supply over the season.

Because the inventory persists between matches and survives elimination, a single restocking trip keeps you covered for several games. Spend them freely on the rare Sprites that are hardest to carry to a terminal, and let the cheaper finds bank the traditional way.
