D-O is a companion droid handed out during a limited-time event inside the Star Wars Droid Tycoon map in Fortnite, and he is one of the more practical unlocks in the mode. Equipped as a companion, he cuts droid fusion times in half, which matters a lot once you are fusing higher-tier droids that otherwise sit in the queue for minutes at a time.
Quick answer: Defend the D-O perimeter platform from waves of hostile droids until the Trust Level meter hits 80, then walk up to D-O and talk to him to claim him as a companion.
The unlock condition: 80 Trust Level in the D-O Event
When the event countdown hits zero, a short cutscene plays showing D-O fleeing a squad of red-lit battle droids. He then asks for help holding a position, and a Trust Level meter appears on your HUD. That meter is the only progress bar that matters here.
The meter runs on a 400-point scale for the full event reward track, but the companion himself is gated much earlier. Every hostile droid you take down near the platform pushes the number up, and at 80 the first phase ends. Attacking droids elsewhere on the map does nothing for the counter, so stay on the marked perimeter.

Super Sandcrawler: The one-minute blueprint window at 80 trust
Clearing the first defense phase immediately triggers a Super Sandcrawler event that lasts one minute. Your HUD switches to a “GO TO THE SANDCRAWLER!” prompt, and the conveyor belts flood with high-tier droid blueprints, including rare and mythic pulls that normally take a long stretch of regular play to see.

Do not skip this. Sixty seconds is short, so run straight to the belts and grab blueprints instead of stopping to build anything. You can sort out what to keep after the timer expires.
Claim D-O and confirm the fusion bonus is active
After the Sandcrawler window, D-O acknowledges the help with an upload-complete line and becomes interactable. Talk to him and he is added to your companion roster. That interaction is the actual unlock, so it is possible to finish the fight and still not own him if you wander off without speaking to him.
To verify the perk, equip D-O as your active companion and start a fusion. Compare the timer against the same fusion with no companion equipped, or with a different one. With D-O on, the countdown should read half of what it does otherwise. If the timer is unchanged, he is unlocked but not equipped.
Note: the 50 percent cut applies to the fusion timer itself, so it stacks with, rather than replaces, the Rush Fusion option you can spend on individual fusions.
The D-O Event Pass: 300 V-Bucks and what it changes
An optional Event Pass is sold inside the map for 300 V-Bucks. It doubles event progress and applies a 0.5x boost to all event rewards, which mainly means fewer waves between milestones and larger payouts when you hit them.

It is not required for the companion. D-O himself sits at the 80 trust mark, which is reachable without the pass. The pass is worth considering only if you plan to push the full reward track in one sitting.
D-O Event rewards past the companion unlock
The event does not end at 80 trust. Additional defense stages continue after D-O joins you, and each one feeds the same meter toward the higher reward tiers.
| Reward | What it is |
|---|---|
| D-O (companion) | Halves droid fusion times while equipped |
| Super Sandcrawler | One-minute flood of rare and mythic blueprints on the belts |
| Galactic Surge Token | Surge token earned from continued defense stages |
| Stellar Surge Token | Surge token earned from continued defense stages |
| D-O Paint | Green base paint applied to your tycoon’s walls, floors and modules |

The later stages reuse the same defend loop, with the objective marker pointing you back to the Sandcrawler area between waves. Nothing about the mechanics changes, the droid counts just get larger.

Droid Tycoon runs these companion events on a rotating schedule, and no official return date for the D-O Event is currently confirmed. If it is live in your session, treat the 80 trust mark as the priority and worry about the paint and surge tokens afterward, since the fusion speed cut pays for itself across every session that follows.
