The Stone Gryphon is a companion cosmetic in Fortnite that walks, flies, and reacts alongside your character during a match. It carries an Uncommon rarity, belongs to the Feathered Sentry set, and was introduced in Chapter 7, Season 4. The design is a carved stone griffin with spiral wing patterns, and it comes with color options, quest-unlocked outfits, and a built-in emote.

Quick answer: Priced at 1,200 V-Bucks, the Stone Gryphon is scheduled to exit the Item Shop Oct 3, 2026, at 7:59 PM local time (GMT-4).

Permanent appearance customization

The Stone Gryphon uses a customize-once system. After purchase, you pick a body color and an eye color, and those choices lock in permanently. The color combination cannot be changed later without buying another copy of the sidekick.

  • Base colors: Its base can be Gray, White, Emerald, or Black
  • Eye colors: Choose from Gray, Yellow, Green, Purple, or Blue

The name is treated differently from the colors. It supports up to 16 characters, defaults to “Stone Gryphon,” and can be changed later in the Locker at any time.

The color lock-in confirmation cannot be undone, so review the base and eye selection before you accept the appearance.

Unlockable styles and the built-in emote

Beyond the permanent colors, the sidekick has extra outfit styles and a reaction that are unlocked through Quests rather than bought. Progress toward them is tracked in the Quests menu.

  • Outfit styles: Default (Off), Love Ranger, Fallen Love Ranger
  • Reaction: Stone Heart
  • Sidekick emote: Plinth Percher

The Plinth Percher emote is the sidekick’s signature animation. The gryphon lands on a stone pedestal, curls into a statue, then bursts out of the stone crust, flaps its wings, and roars as lightning strikes.

How the Stone Gryphon behaves in a match

After you equip it, the sidekick trails you across the map and reacts to your actions. It cannot spot enemies or items, and it has no role in combat. Battle Royale shows you only sidekicks on your own team, while visibility varies in other Fortnite experiences.

  • Walks and runs beside you with an aura effect, and flies to catch up when you sprint.
  • Responds to an on-screen “Pet Stone Gryphon” prompt with a petting animation.
  • Ducks, crouches, and ruffles its wings when you fire a weapon.
  • Sits down on all fours during idle moments.
  • Spins when you open a regular chest and does a back somersault for a rare golden chest.
  • Hovers and dances in mid-air while you play an emote.

Where the Stone Gryphon can be used

The sidekick is not limited to standard Battle Royale. It is usable across several Fortnite modes, though how visible it is to other players changes from one experience to the next.

  • Battle Royale
  • LEGO Fortnite Odyssey
  • LEGO Fortnite Brick Life
  • Fortnite Festival
  • Reload

Together, the fixed color choices, quest-based outfits, and the range of in-match reactions make the Stone Gryphon a decorative companion rather than a gameplay advantage. If you want the specific black-and-yellow or emerald look you have in mind, the appearance decision is the one part worth planning before you confirm the purchase.
