Galgar’s Cactus Apple Surprise: Valley of Trials Quest Guide

Galgar’s Cactus Apple Surprise is one of the first Horde quests you meet in the Valley of Trials, the Orc and Troll starting zone in Durotar. Galgar wants Cactus Apples for his famous cooling treat, and your job is to gather them from the wild cacti dotted around the valley and bring them back.

Quick answer: Take the quest from Galgar in the Valley of Trials, then right-click the cacti scattered across the zone to loot Cactus Apples (6 on retail, 10 on Classic) and return them to him.

Where to start Galgar’s Cactus Apple Surprise

The quest begins and ends with Galgar, an NPC standing in the Valley of Trials. It sits inside the zone’s opening storyline, so you reach it after the early combat tasks. On Classic it becomes available once you finish Cutting Teeth (kill 10 Mottled Boars and report back), and you need to be level 3.

The requirement count and rewards differ by version, so check which one you are playing before you start counting apples.

How to collect Cactus Apples

Cactus Apples grow on the small, rounded, light green cactus pads found at the base of tall cacti. These plants are spread all around the Valley of Trials, across the red dirt plains and up the rocky paths, so you do not have to travel far between them.

Accept Galgar’s Cactus Apple Surprise from Galgar in the Valley of Trials.

Look for tall cacti with the small green blooming pads at their base. The interactable pads have a sparkling outline when you mouse over them.

Right-click the cactus pad. Your character channels a short “Opening” cast before the loot window appears.

Take the Cactus Apple from the window; the tracker refreshes, and an on-screen progress banner increases its count with every pickup.

Move to the next cactus and repeat. Keep harvesting nearby plants until you reach the required count for your version.

Return to Galgar and hand in the apples to finish the quest.

Gathering credit for this quest is strictly individual. When one group member loots a Cactus Apple, the others do not receive credit for it. Everyone in the party must harvest their own set from the cacti.

While seated, eating a Cactus Apple restores 61 health over 18 seconds, making these quest items useful for quickly topping up between plants.

Rewards and completion check

Turning in the apples earns you 10 Cactus Apple Surprise, a food item that restores 302 health over 18 seconds while seated. Eat it for at least 10 seconds to gain the Well Fed effect, which grants 2 Stamina and 2 Spirit for 15 minutes. You also collect the experience and reputation listed above for your version.

You will know the quest is done when the objective banner clears, the reward portions of Cactus Apple Surprise land in your bags, and the experience and reputation gains appear in your chat log after handing in to Galgar.
