A quiet table conversation in Genshin Impact’s Snezhnaya arc connects one of the region’s newer faces to the First of the Eleven Fatui Harbingers. Danica sits down with the Traveler and Paimon, walks through their shared history in Fontaine and Natlan, and then drops a name that changes the tone of the whole exchange.

The Traveler pushes the credit back, noting that Capitano helped enormously and that Natlan would have suffered far more without him. That line refers to the events in Natlan, where Capitano ultimately sacrificed himself after opposing and then allying with Mavuika against the Abyss.
Who Capitano is, for context
Capitano, also called the Captain and known by the personal name Thrain, is the First of the Eleven Fatui Harbingers. He came from Khaenri’ah, served as a commander and knight there until the Cataclysm 500 years ago, and was left under a curse of immortality by Ronova before eventually joining the Fatui in Snezhnaya.
Inside the Fatui he is known less for cruelty than for discipline. Rank-and-file members call him the ever-righteous Captain, and his elite soldiers hold to the same strict standards he does. That reputation is what makes a martial arts apprenticeship under him meaningful shorthand for Danica’s own character.
His body now rests on the Throne of the Primal Fire atop Ochkanatlan, after he merged his existence with Yohualtecuhtin, Lord of the Night, to repair Natlan’s Ley Lines in Mavuika’s place.
Vesna trained under the same teacher
Danica is not the only student. Vesna, commander of the Druzhna and the Tsaritsa’s right hand, grew up alongside Danica as a fellow pupil of the Captain. Her voice lines fill in the childhood that Danica’s scene only gestures at, including a failed plot the two of them hatched to steal their teacher’s mask off his face.
Vesna’s line about his death lands harder than Danica’s measured phrasing:
Whenever I picture him from behind, I remember how solid he seemed. He had the dependability of a mountain, and I could never have imagined that mountain eventually collapsing.
She also recalls him saying that in a real war you never get the chance to say goodbye — and resents that he proved it to her personally. Taken together, the two students give the same loss two very different registers.

Danica does not let the warmth sit. She points out that their shared history gives the two sides grounds for mutual understanding going forward, then immediately reframes it — cooperation is only one of several possibilities.
