The face-to-face meeting with Anastasya in Version 7.1 is where years of Gnosis ambiguity finally get answered out loud. The Traveler and Paimon are received in an icy palace chamber, and instead of deflecting, the Cryo Archon lays out what the Gnoses are, why the Fatui spent centuries collecting them, and what Snezhnaya intends to do with them.
Quick answer: The Pyro Gnosis is no longer a physical object. It was destroyed with Irminsul and went back into the Ley Lines, making it the sole Gnosis the Tsaritsa failed to obtain.

The Pyro Gnosis is the only one unaccounted for
Anastasya opens the real conversation by asking the Traveler directly whether she knows where the Pyro Gnosis is. She frames it as a simple matter of bookkeeping. Every other Gnosis has been located and claimed. That one has not.
The Traveler answers with what Mavuika explained in Natlan. The Pyro Gnosis burned along with Irminsul, and whatever it was made of went back into the Ley Lines. There is nothing left to hand over, steal, or bargain for.
Anastasya does not treat this as a loss. In her telling, all of the Gnoses will eventually be excised from the Ley Lines anyway, so the Pyro Gnosis simply arrived at that endpoint early.
What the Gnoses are made of
The explanation of their origin changes how everything beforehand should be understood. The Gnoses were forged using the remains of the Third Descender. Celestia did not distribute neutral symbols of office; each one is a fragment of something that was slain.
Three points carry the rest of the scene:
- The Gnoses come from the Third Descender’s remains.
- They will eventually be excised from the Ley Lines.
- The Pyro Gnosis already reached that state after Irminsul burned.
Why the Fatui spent centuries collecting Gnoses
Paimon asks the question the game has dangled since Mondstadt. Why does the Tsaritsa want them all? The answer is functional rather than symbolic. Gathered together, the Gnoses amplify elemental affinity far beyond what a single Archon can command.
That amplification is the mechanism for the goal. Enough concentrated elemental power lets her transcend the authority granted by Celestia, and transcending that authority is what makes a confrontation with the Heavenly Principles possible at all. The collection was never about hoarding. It was about building a weapon out of the system’s own credentials.
Snezhnaya has been living under a Nail of Retribution
When the Traveler questions the need for such extreme measures, Anastasya offers the reasoning she seems to have followed for centuries: Snezhnaya has endured an ongoing danger of annihilation from a Nail of Retribution.
That reframes the Fatui’s behavior across every region as pre-emptive rather than expansionist. In her account, the nation is not chasing conquest. It is trying to remove the thing that can erase it at any moment.
The Third Descender’s seal in the inner sanctum
Anastasya next leads the Traveler to a neighboring chamber centered on an enormous crystal. This formation serves as a seal created by the Third Descender before the Heavenly Principles killed them.
It ties the two halves of her explanation together. The Gnoses came from that same being’s remains, and the seal is what survived of them in one piece. Snezhnaya has been keeping both ends of that legacy inside the palace.
The Tsaritsa’s domain of authority is love
Asked what her domain of authority actually is, Anastasya says it is love. She immediately qualifies it. The love for humanity that the Heavenly Principles mandate is, in her view, a curse imposed from above, and she refuses it on those grounds.
This is the detail that explains the long-standing characterization of a cold Archon who never uses her own power. Rejecting the mandate means rejecting the authority that comes attached to it.
Danica, Pierro, and the transcription prism
Two members of the household frame the conversation. Danica is introduced as the Head Maid and Anastasya’s personal attendant, a formality Paimon quietly objects to given they have already met.
Pierro arrives later, announced by Danica, and reports on an experiment run to gather intelligence on Ronova, the Ruler of Death. Anastasya then performs a routine she describes as a daily habit, recording her memories into a transcription prism while Pierro explains how the device works and how it connects back to the Third Descender.
Before dismissing Danica, Anastasya cautions her about approaching the Traveler earlier at Podvorye Restaurant. It is a small beat, but it confirms the palace staff have been tracking the Traveler’s movements around Snezhnaya.
How to confirm the quest step completed
The scene ends on its own. The screen fades to black, the game reloads into the overworld, and the quest objective is marked complete without any further input from you.
The reliable confirmation is the achievement. Finishing the meeting grants The Seven, so if that pops on the transition back to the overworld, the conversation registered in full and you do not need to replay anything.
What the meeting actually settles is narrow but significant. The Pyro Gnosis is permanently out of reach, the remaining six were never the endpoint of the plan, and the Tsaritsa’s target has been Celestia the whole time.
