Badges decide whether a Golden Spirit character plays like its kit intends. The right four-piece set turns a tank into a wall, lets a carry snowball after each Ultimate, and makes a control unit far harder to escape. The wrong set can post great stats while its main skill never fires. Match the set to a character’s attack range and combat loop, run four matching pieces for the main effect, then use gems to reinforce the skill that carries the build.
Quick answer: Badges are not locked to the character they are named after. Read each set’s activation text (melee, ranged, basic-attack, skill, or Ultimate), equip four pieces that fit the wearer, and socket a gem that strengthens the same skill your character actually uses.
How badge sets, slots, and skill points work
Every character has four badge slots. Each piece gives HP, Attack, and Defense, then adds points toward one or more badge skills. Matching pieces stack those points, which is why a four-piece set is the normal baseline. Four matching pieces activate the set’s main four-point effect instead of scattering several weak one-point skills across the build.
Promotion adds more than raw stats. Higher ranks unlock intermediate or advanced stat bonuses, gem sockets, special skills, and eventually Badge Up effects. Gems come from dismantling named badges and add their own skill points when socketed, which is how late-game builds push one skill higher or add a second effect without abandoning the core set.
Three rules control every build:
- The name does not lock the badge. Caesar Badge works on Caesar because its effect fits him, not because of his portrait. Any ranged basic attacker can use it.
- Activation text beats rarity. Effects flagged for melee or ranged characters do nothing on an ineligible wearer, and some advanced skills have a narrower condition than the main skill, so check both.
- A full set is the default, not a rule. Four matching pieces give a reliable four-point effect. Mixed builds only make sense when promoted pieces and socketed gems still hit the breakpoints you need.

Add to Google Preferences →Best badge sets by build goal
Use this as a use-case reference, not a universal tier list. “Best” means best for that specific job. Enemy HP, positioning, fight length, control resistance, and badge investment can all shift the winning setup.
| Build goal | Best set | Why it stands out |
|---|---|---|
| Ranged basics | Caesar Badge | Post-Ult Defense penetration plus repeated basic-attack scaling for long fights. |
| Ranged skills | Koichi Hirose Badge | Skill casts stack skill damage, and its advanced effect rewards repeated Ultimates. |
| Melee crit | Akira Otoishi Badge | Huge crit-damage upside for carries that can survive its 20% increased damage taken. |
| Melee basics | Kenzou Badge | A heavy basic-attack proc and Crit Rate without Akira’s glass-cannon penalty. |
| Melee Ultimate | Rangler Badge | Improves Ultimate effectiveness and adds extra damage against controlled targets. |
| Team defense | Jonathan Badge | Base Defense, nearby team damage reduction, and a personal anti-burst safety net. |
| Self-tank | Secco Badge | Front-loads major damage reduction, then cycles back after its cooldown. |
| Team support | Giorno Badge | A team Shield and Attack Up at battle start and after every Ultimate. |
| Pure healing | Tonio Badge | Boosts healing received and can trade personal damage for stronger healing and Shields. |
| Control | Will / Tarukus | Will extends existing control; Tarukus lowers nearby Effect Res for melee control teams. |
Defense characters
Defense units want more than raw HP. They lean on Defense scaling, self-sustain, Shields, or control. Jonathan Badge is the premium team-first pick, while Secco and Santviento are stronger when the wearer only needs to stay alive.
| Character | Best badge | Why it works | Useful swap |
|---|---|---|---|
| Jonathan Joestar | Jonathan Badge | His healing, damage, and team Shields scale from Defense, and the set protects nearby allies while shrugging off a huge hit. | Secco Badge for short, bursty fights. |
| Ermes Costello | Jonathan Badge | She duplicates Shields to allies, so more Defense strengthens those Shields and Protection makes her a better bodyguard. | Secco Badge when personal survival matters. |
| Rudol von Stroheim | Jonathan Badge | His damage and self-repair scale with Defense, and Garrison helps him survive the spike before an emergency repair. | Santviento Badge for low-HP sustain. |
| Santviento | Secco Badge | Constitution gives a strong opening damage-reduction window, and Defense boosts his damage and healing at once. | Jonathan Badge for team protection. |
| Leone Abbacchio | Secco Badge | He needs time to stack Defense and reach his emergency Shield, and Constitution smooths the dangerous opening hits. | Jonathan Badge at high investment. |
| Ghiaccio | Stroheim Badge | Base Defense feeds his damage and tankiness, and Mastery lowers Effect Res to make Freeze pressure land. | Secco Badge against heavy focus fire. |
| Rubber Soul | Santviento Badge | His plan is soaking and healing through Yellow Temperance, and Revival adds another Defense-based recovery trigger. | Secco Badge for safer openings. |
Ranged characters
Ranged damage splits into two camps. Basic attackers like Caesar, F.F., Hol Horse, and Mista want Caesar Badge, while skill and debuff carries lean into Koichi Hirose. Do not put Caesar Badge on everyone holding a gun.
| Character | Best badge | Why it works | Useful swap |
|---|---|---|---|
| Caesar Anthonio Zeppeli | Caesar Badge | Ricocheting basics, Attack Speed stacks, and post-Ult pressure line up with Penetration and Insight. | Hol Horse Badge before the Legendary set is ready. |
| F.F. | Caesar Badge | F.F. and the Plankton Colony lean on repeated basics, so Defense penetration and same-target procs raise sustained damage. | Hol Horse Badge for a cheaper post-Ult spike. |
| Hol Horse | Caesar Badge | His marks, crit interactions, and repeated shots want a long single-target window. | Hol Horse Badge as the accessible set. |
| Keicho Nijimura | Keicho Nijimura Badge | His summons apply Burn and his team keeps debuffs rolling, so Malice rewards attacking debuffed enemies. | Koichi Hirose Badge for skill-focused builds. |
| Guido Mista | Caesar Badge | He already gets Defense penetration from crits, and Caesar adds another window plus strong repeated-basic scaling for bosses. | Mista Badge for low-HP cleanup. |
| Johngalli A. | Koichi Hirose Badge | His channeled Ultimate and enhanced attacks want a skill-first setup, and Charge raises the ceiling of repeated Ultimates. | Johngalli A. Badge for opening burst. |
| Sale | Koichi Hirose Badge | His payoff is a heavy channeled Ultimate backed by Immobilize, so skill damage matters more than a basic-attack execute. | Johngalli A. Badge against healthy targets. |
Assault characters
Assault units are all melee, but they do not want the same set. Basic attackers prefer Anubis or Kenzou, Ultimate carries prefer Rangler, and control bruisers get more real value from Tarukus or Ermes than from chasing the biggest crit number.
| Character | Best badge | Why it works | Useful swap |
|---|---|---|---|
| Prosciutto | Akira Otoishi Badge | AoE aging and execute reward maximum damage, and Impulse pushes his crit ceiling if the team covers the extra damage taken. | Kenzou Badge for safer crit scaling. |
| Tarukus | Rangler Badge | He has an Ultimate execute built around heavy finishing damage, and Fury makes that payoff hit harder. | Ermes Badge for teamwide melee pressure. |
| Lisa Lisa | Akira Otoishi Badge | Long Stun, frequent Energy support, and self-Shields give an aggressive crit setup room to work. | Rangler Badge for safer Ultimate damage. |
| Chaka | Anubis Badge | Basic attacks cut his skill cooldown, so Frenzy gives more attacks, more cycling, and more Defense Down uptime. | Tarukus Badge in control-heavy teams. |
| Secco | Rangler Badge | His Ultimate creates the Grounded zone that drives his kit, and Fury plus Oppression fit the control setup. | Ermes Badge for sturdier brawling and Defense shred. |
| Viviano Westwood | Tarukus Badge | Mastery lowers Effect Res so his Stun sticks, and Oppression doubles bonus damage against controlled enemies. | Ermes Badge for broader amplification. |
| Sports Maxx | Ermes Badge | He spreads Defense Down, Bleed, and Damage Amplification, and Intimidation adds frontline shred the team cashes in on. | Rangler Badge for a personal Ult build. |
| Blueford | Rangler Badge | His Ultimate scales with missing HP and applies major Defense Down, and Fury sharpens that finisher. | Anubis Badge for faster skill cycling. |
| Leaky Eye Luca | Anubis Badge | Basic attacks reduce his skill cooldown, so Attack Speed makes a clean loop of more hits and more casts. | Kenzou Badge once Crit Rate is reliable. |
Risk check: Akira Otoishi Badge makes the wearer take 20% more damage. It is a speed-clear option, not a free damage upgrade.
Special characters
Most Special units attack from range, but their jobs vary. Avdol and Pet Shop have enhanced-basic windows, while Koichi, Cioccolata, Captain Dragon, Shigekiyo, and Anjuro care about skills, status effects, and keeping targets debuffed.
| Character | Best badge | Why it works | Useful swap |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mohammed Avdol | Avdol Badge | His Ultimate turns the next three basics into huge enhanced hits, and Onslaught adds Crit Rate to exactly those attacks. | Koichi Hirose Badge for a skill-heavy setup. |
| Koichi Hirose | Koichi Hirose Badge | He casts repeatedly, deals AoE skill damage, and controls space with Onomatopoeia, so the stacking skill bonus fits his loop. | Johngalli A. Badge for early-wave burst. |
| Cioccolata | Keicho Nijimura Badge | Mold Infection and Effect Res Down keep targets debuffed, so Malice stays active as his AoE damage spreads. | Koichi Hirose Badge at high investment. |
| Pet Shop | Caesar Badge | He stores enhanced basics after his Ultimate, and Penetration plus Insight make that rapid-fire window nastier. | Avdol Badge for immediate enhanced-basic crits. |
| Captain Dragon | Keicho Nijimura Badge | Barnacle and Debuff Proficiency support keep enemies marked, and Malice turns that into steady ranged damage. | Lisa Lisa Badge for team-triggered burst. |
| Narancia Ghirga | Caesar Badge | His basics carry a Special Effect, so repeated-basic bonuses and Defense penetration scale the part that never stops firing. | Hol Horse Badge for a cheaper spike. |
| Shigekiyo Yangu | Keicho Nijimura Badge | Harvest applies Bleed and Effect Res Down across many hits, and Malice rewards that debuff uptime during his channel. | Koichi Hirose Badge for raw skill damage. |
| Anjuro Katagiri | Keicho Nijimura Badge | The humidifier spreads Dampness and he hits damp targets harder, so Malice stacks another always-on reward. | Joseph Badge for low-HP finishing. |
Support characters
Support builds are where damage math misleads. A support doing 10% more personal damage is usually worse than one accelerating an ally’s Ultimate, extending a Stun, or keeping the formation alive. Giorno is the premium generalist, while Tonio, Will, and Speedwagon cover more specific jobs.
| Character | Best badge | Why it works | Useful swap |
|---|---|---|---|
| Giorno Giovanna | Giorno Badge | His healing and Shields scale with Max HP, and Inspiration plus Empower feed team Shields, Attack Up, Energy, and protection. | Koichi Hirose Badge only for his damage Ultimate. |
| Will A. Zeppeli | Giorno Badge | He already heals and restores Energy, and Giorno Badge adds an opening safety net and team tempo without cutting his damage. | Tonio Badge for maximum healing. |
| Robert E. O. Speedwagon | Giorno Badge | His kit revolves around Max-HP Shields, healing shielded allies, and Energy, and Inspiration layers on another Shield and buff. | Speedwagon Badge for an accessible opening Shield. |
| Joseph Joestar | Will Badge | He brings Stun, Immobilize, grouping, and Damage Amplification, and Delay extends the control window for the team. | Koichi Hirose Badge for personal damage. |
| Tonio Trendy | Tonio Badge | He does not use normal basics and exists to heal, cleanse, and restore Energy, so Blessing and Leniency fit his job. | Giorno Badge for offensive team support. |
| Kenzou | Tarukus Badge | He supports crit teams with a reliable Silence, and Mastery helps that control land while Unlucky Spot boosts the carry. | Giorno Badge for safer teams. |
| Lang Rangler | Will Badge | His zero-gravity zone Stuns and amplifies ranged damage, and Delay stretches the window for more free shots. | Giorno Badge for general support. |
| Mariah | Will Badge | Her Magnetic Force setup ends in Stuns, and Delay is the cleanest way to turn that control into a longer punish window. | Giorno Badge for team survivability. |
| Pesci | Will Badge | His Ultimate channels a continuous Stun and his skill adds another, so Delay doubles down on his one job. | Giorno Badge for protection while channeling. |
Note: Will Badge’s advanced Leniency effect lowers the wearer’s damage for stronger healing and Shields. It is excellent on true healers, but do not overinvest in it on Joseph, Mariah, or Pesci when their personal damage still matters.
Agility characters
Agility is the messiest group, mixing assassins, control units, energy denial, and channel carries. Build around the actual loop. Bruno wants basic-attack disruption, Diavolo wants his finisher juiced, and Melone or Gwess provide more by making control stick.
| Character | Best badge | Why it works | Useful swap |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bruno Bucciarati | Bucciarati Badge | Drain stacks Energy denial onto his stealth basics, and Lethality gives his disruption a real damage payoff. | Kenzou Badge for straightforward damage. |
| Diavolo | Rangler Badge | His Ability Ultimate is a missing-HP finisher against Isolated targets, and Fury boosts the part meant to delete them. | Akira Otoishi Badge for risky burst. |
| N’doul | Koichi Hirose Badge | His ranged skill and channeled Ultimate are the main damage events, and Onslaught rewards casts without melee brawling. | Johngalli A. Badge for opening burst. |
| Akira Otoishi | Bucciarati Badge | He drains Energy with basics and scales his Ultimate against low-Energy targets, and Drain doubles the win condition. | Kenzou Badge for more direct DPS. |
| Formaggio | Tarukus Badge | Effect Res reduction helps his long Stun land, and Oppression is best when the target is already controlled. | Kenzou Badge for boss damage. |
| Mario Zucchero | Rangler Badge | His Ultimate breaks the target’s Shield and tries to control them, and Fury makes that cast more threatening. | Kenzou Badge for steadier basics. |
| Melone | Will Badge | He brings Silence and utility over clean carry damage, and Delay stretches control windows. | Giorno Badge for team utility. |
| Straizo | Kenzou Badge | He gains Crit Up and restores Energy on attacks, and Flurry turns those basics into a consistent engine. | Anubis Badge for Attack Speed. |
| Squalo | Rangler Badge | He commits to a channeling Ultimate, so boosting that cast beats padding a few basics between rotations. | Tarukus Badge for control support. |
| Gwess | Will Badge | Her value comes from Shrunken and control interactions, and Delay extends the team’s punish window. | Tarukus Badge if she fights in melee. |
Badge gems and who should socket them
Gems are not a second tier list. They add skill points, so their value depends on the set, available sockets, and whether the wearer can trigger the copied skill. A strong gem with the wrong melee or ranged condition does nothing. The safest early move is to reinforce the build’s main skill. Once higher promotion opens more sockets, combine effects only when you can reach a meaningful breakpoint.
| Gem skill | Best users | What it adds |
|---|---|---|
| Penetration | Caesar, F.F., Hol Horse, Mista, Pet Shop, Narancia | Post-Ult Defense penetration for ranged basic attackers. |
| Suppression | Koichi, Johngalli A., Sale, damage Giorno | Large ranged skill damage while the enemy is above 60% HP. |
| Malice | Keicho, Cioccolata, Captain Dragon, Shigekiyo, Anjuro | More ranged damage against enemies already carrying a debuff. |
| Flurry | Prosciutto, Bruno, Akira, Straizo, Leaky Eye Luca | A melee basic-attack proc plus Crit Rate, with no extra-damage-taken penalty. |
| Fury | Lisa Lisa, Diavolo, Tarukus, Secco, Blueford, Squalo | Direct Ultimate effectiveness for melee carries whose rotation lives on one cast. |
| Constitution | Jonathan, Ermes, Santviento, Abbacchio, Ghiaccio, Rubber Soul | Front-loaded melee damage reduction that refreshes after its cooldown. |
| Inspiration | Giorno, Will, Speedwagon, Tonio, defensive leaders | A team Shield and Attack Up at battle start and after the wearer’s Ultimate. |
| Barrier | Will, Speedwagon, Tonio, budget defensive teams | An immediate Max-HP team Shield for dangerous openings. |
| Delay / Mastery | Joseph, Viviano, Formaggio, Lang Rangler, Mariah, Pesci | Delay extends existing crowd control; Mastery lowers nearby Effect Res for melee wearers. |
Badge quality, promotion, and Badge Up
Rare, Epic, and Legendary badge families do not share the same ceiling. Their star ranges and payoffs differ, which decides how much you should invest in each.
| Family | Star range | Max quality | What the track offers |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rare | ★1–★5 | Epic | Simple stat-focused set skill, with no advanced skill or gem plan to build around. |
| Epic | ★4–★8 | Legendary | Main skill, intermediate stats, gem sockets, an advanced skill, and Badge Up at the top end. |
| Legendary | ★7–★10 | Mythic | Main skill, advanced stats, gem sockets, a powerful special skill, and the strongest Badge Up ceiling. |
Rare sets are not junk. Blueford Badge gives Base Defense, Straizo Badge mixes Base Attack and HP, Leaky Eye Luca, Mariah, and Shigekiyo Yangu Badges give Base Attack, and Gwess Badge gives Base HP. They are cheap, predictable early sets to run while you build a real four-piece Epic or Legendary set.
Epic sets are your account-builders. They are much easier to finish than Legendary sets, carry build-defining effects, and unlock gems and advanced skills. A complete, promoted Epic set usually helps more than one lonely Legendary piece waiting for three friends.
Legendary sets have the highest ceiling, but wasted resources hurt most here. Before committing, confirm the wearer can trigger both the main skill and the advanced effect. Avdol Badge is the classic warning. Onslaught’s opening and post-Ult Crit Rate are broadly useful, but its advanced Shockwave effect only activates for melee characters.
How to get and upgrade badges
The Forge is the main badge source. Roughly 95% of standard Forge results are Rare and around 5% are Epic, while a dedicated Epic craft produces a random Epic set. Legendary pieces use named blueprints and a much more expensive recipe. Caesar Badge, for example, costs 150 Refined Iron, 30 Gold Ingot, one Rawstone, and one Caesar Badge Blueprint per piece, and a full set needs four crafts. Eligible Legendary pieces can also appear in an Excellent Badge Selection Chest, though pack contents and blueprint availability can rotate.
Promotion consumes duplicates and same-quality star fodder. Upgrade the four-piece core evenly enough to unlock the set’s important breakpoints, since dumping everything into one piece can leave better stats but an unfinished skill. Only dismantle duplicate badges after checking whether you still need them for promotion, because dismantling a named badge produces its matching skill gem, which is valuable but irreversible.
For a new account, the cleanest order looks like this:
- Equip a complete Rare stat set.
- Replace it with a complete Epic set whose trigger fits the character.
- Promote that Epic set far enough to unlock its advanced effect and sockets.
- Chase a Legendary set only for a core carry, tank, or support who will keep it long-term.
- Dismantle duplicates for gems after your promotion plan is covered.
Stick to those priorities and every character ends up with a set that actually fires its main skill, plus a gem that reinforces it, instead of a good-looking stat screen that does nothing in a real fight.
