Gothic 1 Remake: How to Complete the Temple of Innos Quest

Reach the hidden tundra temple, retrieve the magical texts and Innos' Grace amulet, and claim the full reward from Nefarius.

Reach the hidden tundra temple, retrieve the magical texts and Innos’ Grace amulet, and claim the full reward from Nefarius.

The Temple of Innos is a Chapter 4 side quest in Gothic 1 Remake that points you toward an abandoned temple buried in the tundra, hidden behind a waterfall far to the north. Nefarius in the Water Mages’ quarter hands it out, asking you to recover magical texts. Anything else you uncover along the way is yours to keep.

Quick answer: Talk to Nefarius in the New Camp, learn Wall Climb from Theron in the Swamp Camp, climb the hidden mountain pass near the Old Mine into the tundra, swim through the waterfall, grab the Magic Runes and Rituals book and the Innos’ Grace amulet, then return both to Nefarius for 1,000 XP plus the amulet and an extra 500 XP.

Requirements before you start the Temple of Innos

You cannot finish this quest without the Wall Climb ability. The route into the tundra is built around climbable walls, so training it first saves you a wasted trip. Theron teaches it, and you’ll find him sitting on a beach near the temple in the Swamp Camp.

Come prepared for combat. The path is guarded by goblins, Black Goblins, Tundra Wolves, and a Frost Shadowbeast, several of which hit hard. Bring strong gear and a healthy stack of healing items before you leave the New Camp.

How to start the Temple of Innos with Nefarius

Head to the Water Mages’ quarter in the New Camp and speak with Nefarius. He describes valuable magical texts and artifacts sitting in an old temple of Innos out in the tundra and asks you to bring the texts back to him.

Your quest log records the directions he gives. It points you toward a hidden mountain pass near the Old Mine and notes that the temple lies far to the north, tucked behind a waterfall.

Find the hidden mountain pass near the Old Mine

Travel to the Old Mine, which sits north of the Old Camp. You will already know this area from The Minecrawler Nest quest.
Travel to the Old Mine, which sits north of the Old Camp.
When you reach the wooden fence around the Old Mine camp, turn around and look back along the path you came from.
Look to the right to spot a climbable wall. This is the start of the hidden mountain pass that leads up toward the tundra and the temple. Climb it to begin the ascent.
Start climbing the wall to the hidden mountain pass.

Clear the goblin encampment

At the top of the wall, follow the path ahead until you reach a small goblin camp. Take out the goblins, then loot the area thoroughly before moving on.

Check the alcove at the far end of the encampment. A chest there holds a Ring of Power, a Transform Into Molerat scroll, and 2x Parchment. A Schematic of Warrior’s Verdict also sits on a shelf in the same alcove.

Climb the path to the tundra

Climb the ladder on the structure across from the area entrance. At the top, turn left and walk straight into the next climbable wall.
Climb up the ladder and head left to reach the climbable wall.
Keep using the climbable walls to move left toward an opening across from the ladder structure. Follow the path, jump the gap, then climb the wall ahead up and to the right.
Continue forward to a bridge and head left after crossing it. Climb the ledge to reach another wall, follow the path at the top, and jump the small gap to grab the next climbable wall.
Climb up and to the right onto a path patrolled by Black Goblins. Keep following it, crossing bridges, climbing ledges, and scaling walls until you finally reach the tundra.

Survive the tundra and reach the temple

Several Tundra Wolves greet you in the first area, and they hit hard. Quick-save often between fights and avoid pulling more than one or two at a time.

There’s a cave in the back-left corner of this first area. Inside, a corpse carries an Amulet of Might worth grabbing before you push on. The same cave also holds the one-handed sword Sowing Hatred.

Head forward and to the right to climb a ramp. A Frost Shadowbeast appears as you climb, and it can be tough to bring down. Freezing it has no effect, so lean on fire magic if you choose to fight. You can also simply run past it and keep moving along the path.

Just past the Frost Shadowbeast, a waterfall comes into view. Jump into the water and swim straight through it to enter the hidden Temple of Innos.

Where to find the Magic Runes and Rituals book

Inside the temple, a Skeleton Mage waits in the first room. Defeat it, then take the Magic Runes and Rituals book from the pedestal in the center. This is the magical text Nefarius wants, so grab it before anything else.

A chest sits past the pedestal. Open it for a Rain of Fire spell, 2x Light Scroll, 2x Healing Scroll, and 4x Parchment before heading deeper.

Where to find the Innos’ Grace amulet

Climb the stairs to the left of that chest, follow the path, climb the ladder, and continue into the next room. Several Skeletons are inside, so clear them to make exploring easier.
Go through the wooden door across the room and head right to a chest holding a Summon Skeleton scroll, 1x Elixir of Magic Energy, 1x Elixir of Healing, 2x Sulfur, 2x Salt, and 3x Lab Flask.

Walk around the dome and climb a small flight of stairs. A corpse rests at the top. Loot it for the Innos’ Grace amulet, the final item tied to the quest and the key to a larger reward.

How to leave the temple quickly

With Innos’ Grace in hand, you can follow the path back down and walk out of the tundra on foot. The faster option is the Teleport to the Water Mages rune, which drops you straight into the Water Mages’ quarter.

You receive that rune at the end of The Water Mages’ Plan, and you may have already used it while collecting focus stones.

Temple of Innos rewards and how to confirm completion

Return to Nefarius in the Water Mages’ quarter and hand over what you found. Showing him only the Magic Runes and Rituals book completes the quest for 1,000 XP. Bring the Innos’ Grace amulet as well, and he lets you keep the amulet while granting an extra 500 XP on top.

What you returnReward
Magic Runes and Rituals only1,000 XP
Book plus Innos’ Grace amulet1,000 XP, the amulet, and an additional 500 XP

You’ll know the quest is done when the dialogue with Nefarius closes out and your quest log marks the Temple of Innos as complete, with the XP and any kept items applied to your character.

Because the amulet only changes hands when you present it, the simplest way to miss the larger payout is to skip the corpse outside the temple. Grab Innos’ Grace before you teleport away, and you’ll walk out with the full reward.
