Swampweed Harvest is a Chapter 1 side quest in the Gothic 1 Remake that pushes you toward earning a place in the Swamp Camp. The job is simple in shape but easy to fumble. You collect two batches of swampweed from harvesters out in the marsh, hand the full load to Cor Kalom, then circle back to the man who sent you. Get the order wrong and you risk being accused of stealing half the crop.
Quick answer: Take the swampweed from Balor, then from Viran (clear every bloodfly near his field first), deliver both to Cor Kalom in the Swamp Camp, and report back to Baal Orun at the weed mashers to receive a Sleep Scroll and 1100 XP.
How to unlock Swampweed Harvest
This quest does not appear on its own. You first have to finish Ghorim’s Replacement, the task where you convince Harlok to take over Ghorim’s exhausting work. Once that is done, Baal Orun approaches you near the southwest corner of the Swamp Camp and offers a job of his own. Accept it, and Swampweed Harvest begins.

Add to Google Preferences →Step 1: Collect swampweed from Balor
There are no map markers for the harvesters, so you have to navigate the swamp by sight. Balor sits at his hut out beyond the camp, and the cleanest route is to follow the path toward the open log tree bridge close to where the mashers are working.

Step 2: Collect swampweed from Viran
Viran works far to the east, close to the barrier and the beach. Look for a two-storey wooden tower with two ladders and you have found him. He is not as easygoing as Balor. When you tell him Baal Orun sent you, he refuses to trust you outright and sets a condition instead.

To prove yourself, you must kill every bloodfly around his harvest area. The cleanest approach is to wait until morning, since the marsh gets very dark at night and that puts you at a disadvantage. A bow lets you pick the bloodflies off quietly and from a safe distance.
The bloodflies sit in three clusters around the tower.
| Group | Location | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Across the wooden bridge in front of Viran’s tower | Largest swarm, so come prepared |
| 2 | Follow the path to the left from the tower | Stay away from the water, swampsharks lurk there |
| 3 | On the beach to the right, near the barrier | Open ground, easy bow targets |

Step 3: Deliver the swampweed to Cor Kalom
With both batches in hand, head back into the Swamp Camp and find Cor Kalom in the alchemy lab. Handing him the combined hundred stems closes out the quest itself and nets another 100 XP.

Do not stop there. The quest log may register as complete after the delivery, but Baal Orun still owes you. Go back to him at his usual spot by the weed mashers and report that the swampweed reached Cor Kalom to collect the full set of rewards.
Swampweed Harvest rewards
Completing the delivery and reporting back gives you a total of 1100 XP, not counting the bloodflies you killed for Viran. You also receive a Sleep Scroll and Baal Orun’s favor, which counts toward joining the Brotherhood.
| Reward | How it pays out |
|---|---|
| 1100 XP | Split across the three quest steps plus the report-back |
| Sleep Scroll | Given by Baal Orun when you report the delivery |
| Baal Orun’s favor | A vote toward Swamp Camp admission |
You only collect the full XP if you both deliver the harvest to Cor Kalom and return to Baal Orun. Skipping the report leaves rewards on the table.
Use the Sleep Scroll to win over Baal Cadar
That Sleep Scroll has a practical use right away. You can spend it to impress Baal Cadar, whose support also helps your case with the Brotherhood. Head to his spot just across from the entrance to Cor Kalom’s laboratory.
You will know the whole chain worked when the quest closes after the Cor Kalom hand-in, Baal Orun gives up the Sleep Scroll on report, and your standing toward Swamp Camp admission ticks up. If the hand-in does not register, make sure you carried both Balor’s and Viran’s portions before speaking to Cor Kalom, since arriving with only one set is the usual reason the delivery stalls.
