The Focus Stone is a story quest for the Brotherhood of the Sleeper in the Gothic 1 Remake, picked up at the Swamp Camp right after The Lost Apprentice. Y’Berion hands you a single task. Use the Strange Amulet to claim a magic-disrupting Focus Stone out by the sea cliff, with the novice Nyras leading the way. The catch is that Nyras does not stay an ally once the stone is in hand.
Quick answer: Talk to Nyras at the Swamp Camp entrance, follow him to the cliff while killing anything that blocks the path, let the amulet break the barrier, then defeat Nyras when he turns hostile. Loot the Focus from the Ocean Cliff, carry it back to Y’Berion, and ask for a reward to receive the Amulet of Flames.

Where the quest starts and what you need
After you meet Y’Berion in person and tell him about the crypt where you searched for Caine, he asks you to use the Strange Amulet on a Focus Stone for the ritual to wake the Sleeper. He points you to Nyras for help. Head back to the camp’s main gate and Nyras will be waiting there.
You do not need any special gear to start, but a melee weapon you can block and counter with makes the fight at the end trivial. Nyras is a Level 8 novice with 132 HP, so he is not a damage check. The whole job is mostly about keeping him alive on the walk over and then putting him down at the cliff.

Note: If Nyras dies on the way, or you simply want to skip ahead, the Cliff Route Map will take you straight to the location on your own.

Break the barrier and retrieve the Focus Stone
At the cliff you will see a blue energy field around the stone. Approach it to trigger a scene. Your first reach for the stone is blocked and you get pushed back, but the amulet’s power shatters the barrier so the Focus can be taken.
Once the barrier is gone, Nyras picks up the stone and starts behaving strangely. Standing alone at the cliff with the Focus, he becomes convinced the Sleeper has chosen him alone and that he should be the one to carry it back. He draws his mace and attacks.

Defeat Nyras and take the Focus
The fight is not hard. Block or parry his mace swings and counter for heavy damage, or keep your distance with ranged and magic attacks. If he took hits from creatures during the walk, he goes down even faster. When he falls, grab the Focus from the Ocean Cliff quest item from his body.
Tip: You can strike Nyras the instant the Focus Stone cutscene ends, before the conversation that turns him hostile. Knock him down and loot him while he is downed. That strips his weapon, so when the scripted fight begins he is unarmed and barely able to hurt you.

Nyras also drops a handful of extra items worth grabbing while you are looting him.
| Item | Amount |
|---|---|
| Green Novice | 1 |
| Ore Nugget | 15 |
| Rice | 5 |
| Rice Schnapps | 3 |
| Steel Tongue | 1 |
Return to Y’Berion for the reward
Carry the Focus Stone back to the Swamp Camp and speak to Y’Berion. Tell him what happened to Nyras. He is saddened by the loss of a follower but accepts that you had no choice. Hand over the Focus and the quest closes out.
Before you leave the conversation, ask Y’Berion for a reward. Doing so nets you the Amulet of Flames, which you only get if you actually request it.

How you know the quest is complete
The quest log updates to show the Focus brought to Y’Berion, and you are awarded 750 experience. Y’Berion then tells you to fetch a book from the fire mages, which begins The Almanac quest. That handoff is the clearest sign The Focus Stone is finished.
