Grand Blue: How to Get All Fighting Styles (Trainer Locations)

Grand Blue currently has four fighting styles you can learn and equip during Early Access. These are Brawler, Marksman, Novice Swordsman, and Trickster. Each one comes from a specific trainer NPC, and each has its own cost or unlock chain. A fifth style, Blackleg, is not obtainable right now.

Quick answer: Buy Brawler from Wallace at Anchor Town Beach (250 Gold), Novice Swordsman from Shiro near Anchor Town Pond (250 Gold), Marksman from the Captain Esopo trainer at Maple Village (1,000 Gold), and Trickster from Loki at Clown Town after finishing his Anchor Town quests and getting the Pickpocket and Pocket Sand skills (1,000 Gold).

Every fighting style and where to unlock it

Here is the full list of styles, who teaches them, and what each one costs. Prices are in Gold, and every style is learned by talking to the correct trainer NPC.

How to get the Brawler style

Brawler is the cheapest and easiest style to pick up, and it sits right in the starting area. You buy it from Wallace on the Anchor Town Beach.

Head to the Anchor Town Beach and walk toward the docks where the fishing rods and worms are sold.

Look directly behind that fishing shop. Wallace is the NPC working out there.

Talk to Wallace and pay 250 Gold to learn Brawler. Some trainers tie a style to physical training, such as push-ups and sit-ups, on top of the Gold cost, so complete any activity he asks for before he hands the style over.

How to get the Novice Swordsman style

Novice Swordsman also costs 250 Gold and stays in Anchor Town. The trainer, Shiro, waits near the Anchor Town Pond, which is easy to reach from the Captain’s Brat NPC.

Go to the Captain’s Brat NPC. To the right of that NPC, you will see a fruit and vegetable stall.

Move to that stall and jump over the wall behind it. This drops you at the Pond where Shiro stands.

Speak to Shiro and pay 250 Gold to learn the Novice Swordsman style.

How to get the Marksman style

Marksman is your first ranged option and costs 1,000 Gold. You will need to travel to Maple Village for it. Note that there are two versions of Captain Esopo here, so aim for the trainer, not the boss.

Enter Maple Village through the docks and head to the top-left corner of the island, toward the Maple Village Rocky Shores and the beach-like area.

You will find a Captain Esopo NPC standing there. This is the Captain Esopo boss you can fight or walk past.

Look for the corridor behind that boss NPC. The Captain Esopo trainer stands inside it. Talk to him and pay 1,000 Gold to learn Marksman.

How to get the Trickster style

Trickster is the most involved unlock because you cannot simply buy it. You have to finish a Loki quest in Anchor Town, farm two skills from a boss, and then meet Loki again on a second island before he will teach the style for 1,000 Gold.

Go to the Anchor Town Harbor and find Loki sitting near the water on the right side of the harbor. Talk to him and bring the items he requests to complete his first quest.

Grind The Hoarder boss until you get both the Pickpocket Skill and the Pocket Sand Skill. Pocket Sand is a 10% drop, so expect several runs.

Spawn your boat and sail to Clown Town. Loki is seated in one of the Ferris wheel cars, so climb the Ferris wheel components to reach him. Talk to him and pay 1,000 Gold to learn Trickster.

Note: If you skip the first Loki quest or arrive without both skills, the Loki NPC at Clown Town will not spawn, and the style stays locked. Finish steps one and two first. After you own Trickster, completing more of his quests unlocks additional skills.

Blackleg is not obtainable yet

Blackleg cannot be unlocked in the current build. It once appeared in the Fighting Styles section of the Logbook, but it has since been removed. There is no confirmed date for its return, so treat any obtainment method as unavailable until the developers add it back.

How to switch between fighting styles

Once you own more than one style, you swap between them from a closet inside Anchor Town. The same closet also handles your permanent Devil Fruits.

Travel to the Food Fod building in Anchor Town. The quickest way to find it is to go to the Anchor Town Plaza where the Aria singer NPC stands.

Take the stairs on the right side of the building and enter the room. You will see a closet inside.

Interact with the closet to open your inventory. Use the Fighting Style section to change your active style. The Devil Fruits section next to it lets you switch permanent fruits, since only permanent ones show up there.

A fighting style stays on your character even when you swap fruits, because fruit mastery is saved separately per fruit. That means it is worth grabbing the two cheap Anchor Town styles early, then investing time into Marksman or Trickster once you have the Gold and the boss drops in hand.
