The Fox is a rare pet in Grow a Garden 2 built around one job: taking seeds that belong to other players. It does not grow crops faster or defend your plot. Instead, it turns the game’s night-time stealing system into a passive source of free seeds for you.

Quick answer: Place a Fox in your garden and, every night, it will leave on its own, walk up to another player, steal one seed after three seconds, and carry it back to your inventory at no Sheckle cost to you.

How the Fox steals seeds at night

The Fox only works during the night phase. While it is dark, the pet repeatedly scans for a nearby seed it can reach. Roughly every 5 to 10 seconds it runs a check, and when it spots a valid target it sets off toward that player.

Once it reaches the target, the Fox needs three seconds to lift a seed from that player’s inventory. It then returns to your garden and hands the seed over, adding it directly to your hotbar or inventory. A stolen seed cannot be recovered by the victim.

Timing rules keep the pet from spamming steals. If the Fox cannot reach its target within 20 seconds, it gives up and looks for someone else. After a successful theft it enters a 10-second cooldown before checking again. If a check finds no valid target, it only waits about 3 seconds before scanning once more. As long as it is still night, the Fox keeps repeating this loop.

When the Fox fails to steal a seed

The Fox is powerful but easy to block. It comes home empty-handed whenever any of these conditions apply to a potential target.

  • The player is standing inside a Safe Zone, or is sitting in their own garden.
  • The player has no seeds in their inventory to take.
  • The player was already robbed recently. After a steal, that player gains immunity for about 75 seconds, so the Fox cannot hit the same person twice in a row.

Because of these limits, the Fox is most useful on busy servers where players roam outside Safe Zones at night with seeds still on them. On quiet servers, or when everyone hides in their garden, it will often return with nothing.

Big and Huge Fox variants

A Fox can spawn as a larger, rarer variant that steals more seeds per trip and moves faster, which shortens the effective downtime between thefts. A separate Rainbow tier stacks on top of these, adding a flat 1.25x boost to the pet’s ability.

Huge (Mega)32x

A Rainbow Fox travels even faster on top of its size variant, making it the most efficient version for grabbing seeds during a single night.

How to get the Fox in Grow a Garden 2

The Fox is a wild pet that appears at random spots on the map rather than from an egg. Its spawn rate is very low, so you may play for a long time before one shows up. When it does spawn, a countdown timer runs above it, and you must buy it with Sheckles before that timer expires or it disappears.

Keep watching the map during play for a wild Fox to spawn. It can turn up anywhere, and its appearance is a rare event, so grab it the moment you see one.
Walk up to the Fox before its spawn timer runs out and purchase it with Sheckles. Once bought, it becomes your pet and can be placed in your garden.
Wait for the night phase. You will know the Fox is active when it leaves your garden on its own to hunt for seeds, then returns and drops a stolen seed into your inventory.

Note: The Fox is a limited-time asset tied to seasonal events, so it is not always obtainable. When the associated event is not running, it will not appear on the map even if you keep searching.
