The Halibut Harpoon is a Stage 10 rod in Fisch with uses beyond fishing. Halibut Harpoon stats and obtainment
The Halibut Harpoon was added on August 15, 2026, and the 2nd Anniversary Update on October 3, 2026 attached a mastery questline to it. Before any of that, you have to own the rod. It comes from Dr. Monty inside Monty’s Lab and costs 50,000,000 C$, with a level requirement of 1000.

Infinite max weight means it can land any fish in the game, and 200 durability lets it fish in lava, noxious fluid, and brine pools. The base rod gives a +20% fish weight boost plus a 20% chance each for the Bathyal (7×), Thalassic (9×), and Hadal (11×) mutations. A perfect catch adds a 10% chance for Hadal to apply over whatever mutation already rolled, provided it does not override a higher-priority or higher-value one.
Dr. Monty’s questline runs long. It opens with a quiz (answers: Hubert Mission, 13.3 million for the Shiny Sparkling Aether Pufferfish, and Orange), then asks you to catch and return ten pufferfish species. After turning in the first batch there is a mandatory five-hour real-time cooldown before the next phase, which demands mutated and perfect pufferfish catches followed by 500 catches with the restricted harpoon.
The four mastery quests
Each quest arrives as a riddle rather than a plain objective. All four must be done with the rod in Rod Mode, not the default Harpoon mode, or your progress will not register and you may have to restart parts.

Riddle: “I’m blue on special occasions.” The answer is Limited-rarity fish. Catch five 2nd Anniversary Event fish carrying a Hadal, Thalassic, or Bathyal mutation. Any five that qualify will count. The reward is the ability to use Limited and Special bait in Enhancement for the Halibut Harpoon, plus one Terminus Fragment.

Riddle: “Why should a rod’s requirements match its looks? We’re inventing the rules!” Catch all three halibut species with the Hadal mutation. Completing this earns the Dreaming Puffers Supporter Halo, the “Hadopelagic” Title, and one Terminus Fragment.

Riddle: “Bring the depths to those that fly the highest!” Catch one Wyvern (Exotic) with the Hadal mutation. It spawns Above The Clouds during Rain, using Truffle Worm or Starlight Worm. The reward is one Pufferfish Balloon and one Terminus Fragment.
Run the Long enchant on the rod for this one. It raises Resilience, Line Distance, and Progress Speed, which all help against a tricky catch.
Terminus
Combine the three Terminus Fragments from the earlier quests to craft the Terminus Item, then use it to open the Terminus mini-game. You must catch 25 Hunt Fish in a set order with no break, and with no Companions or Gloves equipped. Catching the right fish out of order will not count. The reward is the Terminus Lantern and the Terminus Enhancement for the rod.

Mastery rewards and the Terminus Enhancement
Clearing all four quests unlocks the Flak Krakenling skin and a set of permanent passives you keep while fishing with the rod.

The Terminus Enhancement rewrites how the rod performs. The flat +20% weight bonus becomes a coin flip of +25% or +35% weight. Harpoons that miss the bar now return 30% of their progress instead of nothing, the Progress Locked harpoon delay drops to 1.5 seconds, Bait Preservation gains an extra 40% chance, and bait rarity passives start working in Harpoon Mode too.
The harpoon mini-game and the 1.7× weight multiplier
During a fish’s mini-game, harpoons target random positions, indicated by exclamation points; each volley contains 15 to 35. Another volley of 15 to 35 launches every five seconds. A hit counts when the fish is within the control bar, adding +1% progress. Each successful hit also has a base 5% chance to score a critical hit and grant an additional +1%.
To boost the fish’s weight, hit the fish and bar with at least 15 harpoons; this makes its final weight 1.7× higher. The multiplier combines with the rod’s innate weight increase and mutation chances, letting a well-executed catch rise far above the rod’s base.
Four attributes determine how the harpoon performs, with individual ceilings on how much bait can raise each one. Their starting values are close to the low ends of their ranges, making bait important for increasing them. Control is also capped at 0.15, though Snail bait can exceed that cap.

How bait rarity changes the harpoon
Equipped bait rarity provides an additional effect beyond its direct stats. Since one effect is cosmetic only, check the rarity before starting an important run.

Harpoon Gun mode
On desktop, press Q; on controller, use Left Trigger 2, or use the Switch control to change the Halibut Harpoon into its gun form. Shoot a school of fish in this mode to catch the entire group with a single shot, making it useful for the roaming fish these harpoon guns were designed to target.
The gun form can also extend your time underwater. Each catch made while submerged restores 5% oxygen, allowing you to string together deep-water catches before surfacing. The mode works on high-tier catches too, not only schools.
The Legendary Pufferfish Harpoon skin
Dr. Monty offers another skin, but the pufferfish must be one you caught yourself. A fish received in a trade won’t qualify: the game verifies that your username is linked to its catch.
You can interact with the skin: its color follows the “Halo Color” option in the game menu. Adjust that setting to change its look without altering anything else.
Reskin the Pufferfish Boat
Any mutated pufferfish you own can determine the Pufferfish Boat’s appearance. Approach the boat while carrying one and feed it through the boat’s mouth. Its skin adopts that mutation, and the fish remains in your inventory.
This change won’t last through a despawn: once you respawn the boat, its appearance returns to the default. Feed it another fish whenever you spawn it again.
