Halloween: The Game Patch Notes 1.0.2 (Prestige and Challenge Fixes)

Illfonic’s second hotfix turns Prestige Challenges back on, repairs broken challenge tracking, and buffs Michael’s early game.

Prestige Challenges are live again in Halloween: The Game. Illfonic’s second hotfix since Early Access, version 1.0.2, landed on September 11th, 2026, and it is mostly a repair job: the Prestige system works, a long list of challenges finally tracks progress, five stuck achievements now unlock, and Michael Myers is a little harder to hurt in the opening minutes of a match. Console players will see it labeled as update 1.010.

Quick answer: Install version 1.0.2 (update 1.010 on consoles), then open your challenge menu — Prestige Challenges are selectable again, and having one active no longer kicks you out of matchmaking.

Prestige Challenges are re-enabled in 1.0.2

Prestige Challenges were switched off on September 9th while Illfonic chased down the root cause. The problem was blunt: if you had a Prestige Challenge active, matchmaking would not let you through. Patch 1.0.2 fixes that behavior and turns the challenges back on, so the two changes arrive together.

A follow-up hotfix went out the same evening at 5:15 PM PST to deal with weapon Prestige Challenges that were not populating their text correctly. If you loaded in before that window and saw blank or missing weapon challenge descriptions, restart the game so the client picks up the corrected data.

You know it worked when a Prestige Challenge can be equipped and a public match search completes normally instead of dropping you back to the menu. The full breakdown lives in the official 1.0.2 patch notes.

Challenge tracking fixes in Halloween: The Game 1.0.2

Progression blockers hit both Passive and Progressive Challenges, and the two broadest offenders were generic objectives — escorting Residents to an escape and simply surviving a match — that were not always registering. Both now count. Here’s what else changed:

ChallengeIssue resolved
Escort Residents to an escapeProgress was not tracked properly
Survive a matchProgress was not tracked properly
Weight of the Mask (Killer Passive)Progress was not tracked properly
Superstitious Tools (Rachel)Tracking did not match the description
Ward Off Evil (Rachel)Awarded extra progress
Wheels Clipped (Hatchet)Progress was not tracked properly
Edge of the Blade (Kitchen Knife)Progress was not tracked properly

Illfonic describes single-player challenge completion as “far more consistent” after these fixes, while flagging in-game messaging as a separate problem it still wants to improve in later updates.

Story Mode challenge and achievement fixes

Four Story Mode objectives were either untrackable or actively sabotaged by scripting. Prologue Challenge 6 now records progress. In Chapter 2 Challenge 6, certain executions were wrongly flagging you as having alerted someone. Chapter 4 Challenge 2 no longer sends Lynda straight out of the bedroom after Bob’s death, and Chapter 5 Challenge 1 no longer demands that flashlights be drained completely before it completes.

Five achievements and trophies were also failing to pop despite the conditions being met. Those are Purist, Close Quarters, No Friend Left Behind, Natural Observer, and Stalker. If any of them are still locked, replay the qualifying condition on 1.0.2 rather than expecting a retroactive unlock.

Balance changes: Michael’s early game, Lethal Pitch, and Pocket Knives

The balance pass is small and pointed. Bloodthirst Tiers already scale Michael’s damage resistance, grab strength, melee damage, ability cooldowns, and Shape Jump speed, but the early tiers were leaving him too soft before that curve kicked in. Civilians lose a reliable crutch in exchange.

ChangeEffect
Michael base damage resistanceIncreased
Bloodthirst tier 1 and 2 damage resistanceIncreased
Lethal Pitch Perk, tiers 2–5Effectiveness lowered
Grab Escape Item spawns (Pocket Knives, Icepicks)Reduced across all maps and locations

The Pocket Knife cut is a direct consequence of the item being equippable as a Civilian Starting Item. With fewer knives and icepicks scattered around each map, breaking a grab is meant to be a rare, decisive moment instead of a default answer. Lethal Pitch was flagged as far too strong in its upper tiers, hence the tiers 2 through 5 reduction.

Note: Illfonic says it is still watching Michael-versus-Civilian balance using match data and player feedback, so these numbers are not final.

Crash fixes, Xbox Series S performance, and interaction prompts

Patch 1.0.2 bundles crash fixes and stability work on every platform. Xbox Series S gets called out separately — visual fidelity, general performance, and memory-related crashes are hitting that console harder than the rest, and the team says a dedicated round of improvements is still in development rather than shipping here.

Disappearing interaction prompts were the other major complaint. Several were traced to specific triggers:

  • Items that could not be picked up at all because of collision problems
  • Prompts vanishing after an NPC shoved you out of position mid-conversation
  • Prompts vanishing when a Grabbed Civilian took any collision
  • Prompts vanishing when the Fragile Hourglass was used on a downed Michael
  • Escape prompts vanishing after the Escape Car was repaired

Civilian, Killer, and map bug fixes

On the Civilian side, the Brimstone Fuse trait was being calculated incorrectly and the Loomis Reinforcements Perk Card was not functioning. Followers have stopped closing and locking doors on you, Police spawns no longer arrive missing dialogue and VOIP facial animations, and vehicle collisions no longer stack several instances of extra damage onto passengers. Rachel’s limited promotional “Regal” Eyewear, which had gone missing, is back.

Michael can no longer be killed while he is interacting with the Storm Cellar or Exit Gate, and his knockback animations after a high-speed vehicle hit have been cleaned up. On maps, rain VFX now render correctly in Public Matches.

General fixes cover the escape car behaving erratically during an escape, the Redeem button in the Redeem Code menu ignoring controller input, facial animations failing to play on some characters, and players earning no XP when they left a match as a Spectator.

This is the second hotfix since launch, following server-side adjustments and the Day One Patch, and the pattern is clear enough: Illfonic is triaging by pain level rather than shipping features. Xbox Series S owners are the group still waiting, with a focused performance patch promised but no date attached to it yet.
