Halloween: The Game Patch Notes 1.1.1 (Crash Fixes)

IllFonic's October 16th hotfix targets six crash sources across Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC, with no balance or content changes.

IllFonic’s October 16th hotfix targets six crash sources across Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC, with no balance or content changes.

Just ten days after its first major quality-of-life update, Halloween: The Game got another patch, this one considerably smaller. Update 1.1.1 arrived October 16th, 2026, for Xbox Series X|S alongside PlayStation 5 and PC. The notes contain nothing but crash fixes; they include no balance adjustments or new content, and make no claims about performance tuning. That evening, IllFonic shared the notes through the game’s official X account and Steam, with the posts appearing only minutes apart.

Quick answer: Patch 1.1.1 is live on Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC. It fixes crashes tied to Quick Resume, Series X Performance Mode shaders, DLSS and FSR frame generation, grabbing, and certain gameplay interactions.

Halloween: The Game 1.1.1 crash fixes by platform

Five of the six entries name a specific trigger. Two apply only to Xbox hardware, one applies only to PC upscaling features, and the rest cover every platform.

Crash fixedPlatform
Crash when using Quick ResumeXbox Series X|S
Shader crash in Performance ModeXbox Series X
Crashes with DLSS and FSR frame generationPC
Crash when grabbingAll platforms
Crashes from certain gameplay interactionsAll platforms
Various additional crash fixesUnspecified

The Performance Mode fix names the Series X specifically, not the Series S. The grab and gameplay interaction entries carry no platform label. IllFonic doesn’t say which interactions were crashing the game, and it gives no further detail on the “various additional” fixes.

How 1.1.1 connects to Patch 1.1.0

Several of these fixes go back to problems IllFonic already worked on. Patch 1.1.0 arrived on October 6th as the game’s first quality-of-life update. It mixed crash fixes with a broad rework of match pacing, Bloodthirst gains, escape items, and melee stun locks. Patch 1.1.1 is narrower, and it partly revisits that work.

  • Quick Resume: 1.1.0 already listed a fix for Quick Resume crashes on Xbox Series X|S. 1.1.1 lists another, so the first fix did not cover every case.
  • Frame generation: 1.1.0 added DLSS-G support and claimed better performance with DLSS, FSR, and XeSS. 1.1.1 now fixes crashes caused by DLSS and FSR frame generation specifically.
  • Grabbing: 1.1.0 fixed a Grab lunge that could fail and raised the Bloodthirst Michael gains from successful Grabs. 1.1.1 addresses a crash during the grab itself.
  • Shaders: 1.1.0 moved shader compilation to startup on PC. The 1.1.1 shader fix is console-side, limited to Series X in Performance Mode.

Nothing from 1.1.0 is rolled back in 1.1.1. The pacing, escape, and combat changes from early October all stay as they were.

What Patch 1.1.1 does not change

The notes are about stability only, and they make no claims about frame rate. That matters most on Xbox Series X. Players on that console in Performance Mode had reported crashes as often as one to three times a day before the patch. Frame rate drops during execution animations, in fights with civilians, and in encounters with Michael Myers are not addressed in 1.1.1. If those dips were your main complaint, expect fewer crashes but the same slowdowns.

The patch also contains no new maps, characters, or cosmetics. IllFonic has said the game’s first major content drop is coming later in October. It will include a new free map, Tower Farm, along with new Civilian characters Eugene and Michelle, paid Michael skins, and a Halloween Costume pack. None of that is part of 1.1.1, and no release date for the content update has been confirmed yet.

If a crash still happens after updating and doesn’t match one of the six listed triggers, it is a problem in the current build. Report it with your platform, graphics mode, and the moment the game went down.

For a game that launched on September 8th and has needed regular repair work since, 1.1.1 is a targeted cleanup. It handles the crash paths left over from the larger October patch and leaves gameplay untouched ahead of the Halloween content update.
