In iOS 17, Apple has introduced a valuable new feature for iMessage users: the ability to adjust the playback speed of audio messages. Users now have the option to play their audio messages at various speeds, including 1x, 1.25x, 1.5x, and 2x. This enhancement is particularly beneficial for those who frequently receive a high volume of audio messages, providing a more efficient and customizable listening experience.

Changing Audio Playback Speed in Messages

To modify the playback speed of an audio message, all you have to do is touch and hold the 'Play' button for the specific audio message, then choose your preferred speed from the provided options.

First, open the Messages app on your iPhone.

Then, open the conversation thread where you have received an audio message.

Find the audio message and long tap on the play button. This will bring the playback speed options (1x, 1.25x, 1.5x, and 2x) to your screen. Select a suitable speed from the menu to apply it.

The message will now be played at the speed you have chosen, and the same will be mentioned right next to the pause & play button of the audio message.

You can also use scrubbing (glide your finger over the audio) to reach a specific message part.

Additionally, on iOS 17, you can lock your iPhone while listening to an audio message, and it will continue playing as audio files do. This is definitely one of the best changes, as previously, locking the device used to stop the audio playback.

The capability to adjust the playback speed is a very big convenience that was amiss on the iMessage platform. Fortunately, users now have the flexibility to listen to their audio messages at a pace that suits them.
