Apple Music provides a vast library of songs, albums, and playlists to explore and enjoy. As you discover new music, you might find yourself wanting to earmark your favourite tracks, albums, or playlists for easy access later on.

With iOS 17.1, Apple has changed the nomenclature for easily marking a song you like. Instead of loving a song, you can now favourite it. You can also favourite albums and playlists now. Not only that, but Apple Music has also made it easy to filter and view your favourites. Let's see these new updates to the Music app in action.

How to Favourite an Item

To favourite a song, album, or playlist, the Music app now has a 'Favourite' button (Star icon) that you can tap.

  1. The Favourite button appears front and center on the 'Now Playing' screen.
  1. You can also mark a song as a favourite from the Lock Screen or even the Dynamic Island or the Control Center. There's really no way to miss this button.
  1. To favourite a playlist or an album, tap and hold its thumbnail. Then, tap on 'Favourite' from the menu.

How to Filter and View Your Favourites

When you have songs, playlists, or albums marked as favourites, you can simply filter and view only them in your library.

  1. In the Apple Music app, navigate to the 'Library' tab from the bottom.
  1. Then, go to the category you want to filter. For this guide, we'll filter favourite songs, but it works in a similar manner for all the categories. So, tap on the 'Songs' option in the Library.
  1. Next, tap the 'Filter' option (three stacked lines) in the top-right corner of the screen.
  1. From the options, tap 'Favourited'.
  1. The list of songs in your library will be filtered to show only the items you have favourited. When the filter is applied, the 'Filter' button at the top will appear highlighted so you don't forget that you have a filter on.

Although these might seem like small updates, it's these enhancements that greatly impact our everyday interactions with our iPhones. Now, among everything else going on in your life, at least finding your favourite music won't be a hassle.
