The StandBy Mode on iPhone is a very handy feature that turns it into a smart display showing useful information such as the time when you plug it into a charger. In comparison, the screensaver that appears on your Android device when you are charging is quite limited regarding the information it can display.
Fortunately, you can use third-party apps to get the same experience as iPhones on your Android phone. Standby Mode Pro is the best app you can use for this purpose.
Use StandBy Mode Pro on Android
Standby Mode Pro offers several widgets that you can add to your lock screen while your phone is plugged in, and you can even unlock more by getting the Premium version. These widgets include different types of clocks, media players, photos, etc., and you can customize many of them.
- Download and install the Standby Mode Pro app from the Play Store. The app is free to use but you can unlock Premium features through in-app purchases. Tap on the 'Let's Go' button to start.
- Open the app once it is installed and grant the permissions required for the app to function properly on your phone. After granting the required permissions, you can customize the widgets that will appear when you charge your device.
- Standby Mode Pro lets you add two widgets at one time. Tap on the 'Edit Side' button on either side to add a widget.
- Then swipe left or right to select the widget you want to select. Once you've selected a widget, you can customize it by tapping the 'gear' icon.
- Tapping the gear icon will let you change the font and style of a widget and customize it as you like. You can then add another widget on the other side and repeat the same steps to customize it. Now, when you plug your phone into the charger, you will see the widgets you selected appear on your screen.
- StandBy Mode can also display various apps when they are running in the background. For instance, you can select the Photos option to display photos while your phone is in Standby Mode. You can even add your own photos to the app if you want the app to display them.
- Similarly, you can add apps like Spotify, VLC, and Music Player, and they will show up when your phone is in Standby Mode. You can also interact with the apps directly in Standby Mode, such as playing and pausing music, switching to the next song, etc.
- Another app you can add to Standby Mode Pro is the Calendar app. Like the Music Player and Photos apps, the calendar will appear on your screen when your phone is in Standby Mode and show you important events and dates.
Access Standby Mode Pro app settings
You can head to the Settings page of the Standby Mode Pro app to control various aspects of the app, such as screen orientation, brightness, auto-launch, and others.
- To access the app settings of the Standby Mode Pro app, swipe right a few times until the 'Settings' tab is selected at the top and the gear icon is highlighted on the left. You can see and adjust certain aspects by tapping on the 'General' option.
- Here, you will find options to add effects like snowfall, adjust the screen brightness in Standby mode, enable screen burn-in protection, set a sleep timer, and more.
- To control the app launcher behavior, tap on 'App launch' on the left below 'General'. This page includes the Quick Launch option which you can use to enable Standby Mode quickly, control when it will turn on automatically, etc.
- Below the 'App Launch' section, the 'Auto Close' section contains options that let you control how the standby mode closes. You can set it to close automatically when you pick up the phone in portrait mode, unplug the charger, or double-tap the screen.
- A Night Mode feature is also present in the Standby Mode Pro, just as it is present on the iPhone's Standby Mode. Turning it on will automatically make your screen adjust to dark environments by adding a reddish tint, such as when you turn off the lights at bedtime.
- You can also adjust the screen brightness, schedule the Night Mode, and custom Night Mode color and tint strength.
Things to know
- If you don't want to use third-party apps, you can rely on the built-in screensaver on Android by opening the Settings app and opening the Display section. However, keep in mind that the Clock option may not be available on all phones. For instance, it is not available on Samsung phones.
- You can also find other third-party apps that help you customize the charging screen on your Android. Just make sure to take a look at the permissions such apps require before downloading them.
- Many devices have the 'Always On' feature that keeps your phone screen on at all times. This usually has a few options that let you customize it and make it look like Standby Mode.
