How to Get the Mythic Goldfish in Fortnite (Chapter 7 Season 2)

The Mythic Goldfish is Fortnite's rarest catchable item, a throwable trophy that deals 250 damage to players and 250 damage to structures, enough to eliminate a full-health opponent in one hit in both Battle Royale and Zero Build. It cannot be found in chests, floor loot, supply drops, or vending machines. The only way to obtain it is by fishing.

Quick answer: Fish at fishing holes (or Golden Fishing Spots) on the Chapter 7 Season 2 map using a Pro Fishing Rod, Harpoon Gun, or explosives such as the Bouncing Boomstick. The drop chance is roughly 0.00009%, so expect a long grind.

Mythic Goldfish stats and behavior

The Mythic Goldfish is a throwable consumable. You aim with the secondary input and throw with the primary fire input, just like any grenade-style item. A direct hit on a player deals a flat 250 damage, ignoring shields and health caps in normal modes, which makes it a guaranteed knock or elimination on a single target.

Gear that improves your odds

Any fishing tool can technically pull a Mythic Goldfish, but rarer tools roll on better loot tables and let you check more spots per match. Stack as many of these as you can carry before committing to a fishing route.

ToolWhere to get itWhy it helps
Standard Fishing RodFishing barrels around the mapBaseline option; works at any fishable water
Pro Fishing RodFishing barrels, Squibbly Shores Vault, or Chef Squibbly Fishmonger NPC for 250 goldHigher chance to roll rarer fishing rewards
Harpoon Gun / Enhanced Harpoon Gun (Mythic)Floor loot and chestsFaster casts, can fish from a distance, multiple uses
Bouncing Boomstick or other explosivesFloor loot and chestsDetonates fishing holes instantly and can hit several at once
Tip: Explosives are the fastest way to clear a packed coastline. A single Bouncing Boomstick thrown into a cluster of fishing holes searches them all at the same time, which compresses dozens of casts into a few seconds.

Best places to fish

Squibbly Shores on the western edge of the Chapter 7 Season 2 map is the strongest farming location. The POI sits on open water, has multiple barrels stocked with rods, and consistently spawns Golden Fishing Spots in its bays. Two quieter alternatives are the shipwreck south of New Sanctuary and the small pier south of Sus Studios, which see fewer enemy drops at the cost of less fishable water.

Golden Fishing Spots, added with Showdown Rivalries Act 2, are the priority targets when you find them. They roll from a stronger loot pool than regular fishing holes and disappear once fully looted, so reach them straight from the Battle Bus before other players clear the area.

How to fish for the Mythic Goldfish

Step 1: Drop at Squibbly Shores or another coastal POI with dense fishable water. Grab a fishing tool from the nearest barrel before anything else, since the goal is casts per minute, not full loadouts.

Step 2: Look for fishing holes (rippling circles in the water) and Golden Fishing Spots (visibly gold-tinted pools). Prioritise the gold ones whenever they appear.

Step 3: Cast into each spot with your rod, or shoot it with a Harpoon Gun. If you have explosives, throw a Bouncing Boomstick into a cluster of holes to search several at once.

Step 4: Upgrade to a Pro Fishing Rod as soon as possible. Buy one from Chef Squibbly Fishmonger for 250 gold, or open the Squibbly Shores Vault, which frequently rewards a Pro Fishing Rod alongside its loot.

Step 5: Keep fishing across multiple matches. Because the spawn rate is roughly 0.00009%, treat it as a long-term goal rather than a single-match objective. Move POIs once an area is fished out.

How to confirm you got it

When the Mythic Goldfish drops, it appears as a distinct golden fish item with a unique icon in your inventory and is labeled as Mythic rarity. There is no separate quest or notification, so check your inventory after every successful catch. If you throw it and land a direct hit, the target takes 250 damage immediately, which is the in-match confirmation that the item behaved as intended.

Common reasons it does not drop

  • Fishing in non-fishing-hole water with a basic rod. It is technically possible but the odds are far worse than fishing at marked holes or Golden Fishing Spots.
  • Using only standard rods. A Pro Fishing Rod, Harpoon Gun, or Enhanced Harpoon Gun rolls on better loot tables.
  • Stopping after a handful of casts. The drop rate is low enough that most players go many full matches between sightings.

The Mythic Goldfish stays a bragging-rights item more than a reliable strategy. Bring a Pro Fishing Rod to Squibbly Shores, hit every Golden Fishing Spot you see, and clear fishing holes in bulk with explosives. Eventually one cast will pop a golden fish into your inventory, and the next direct hit ends a fight on the spot.
