Most of us, music fanatics are guilty of hoarding music items in our libraries. We pile up on tracks, albums, and even artists that serve us well and keep them in the goodwill that they would work the same in the future as well – which is usually the case.

However, hoarding on the past would clog space for what’s to come next. In such situations, clearing up our libraries would be the way forward. We aren’t forgetting the music we remove, we’re only making space for new interests.

On Spotify, you can easily remove music from your library irrespective of the reasons. Read on to know how.

Removing Items From Your Library on Spotify Desktop App

Your Spotify library is composed of your liked playlists and albums, and the podcasts, shows, and artists you follow. The manner in which playlists and albums, podcasts, and artists are saved in your library is the same. Hence the process of removing these sets of items would be the same as well.

Removing Playlists From Your Library

Your playlists are available to the left of your Spotify screen at all times. There are four ways to remove your playlists from your library.

Method 1. Launch Spotify on your desktop and double-finger tap or right-click on a playlist on the left. Now, select the ‘Remove from Your Library’ option in the context menu.

Method 2. Every playlist in your library is liked – that is, you have directly or indirectly clicked the ‘Heart’ icon of that particular playlist to turn it green.

Click to open the playlist from the left screen of your Spotify desktop app and hit the now green ‘Heart’ icon to turn it into an outlined heart.

Once it turns into an outlined heart, your playlist is out of your library.

Method 3. Select the playlist you want to remove from your library on the left margin, then click the ellipsis icon (three horizontal dots) below the playlist’s credentials on the right. Now select ‘Remove from Your Library’ from the menu.

Method 4. Click the ‘Your Library’ option on the left menu of the screen. Then, click on the ‘Playlists’ tab on the right. Scroll through your playlists and double-finger tap on the playlist you want to remove. Select ‘Remove from Your Library’ from the context menu.

You can only remove liked playlists from your library. But, you can delete the playlists made by you in all methods.

You can also open the playlist via ‘Your Library’ and follow the second and third methods above to remove it from your library.

To delete a playlist from your library. Simply double-finger tap on the playlist and select ‘Delete’ from the menu.

Or click to open the playlist from the left margin, and click the ellipsis icon (three horizontal dots) below the playlist’s info on the right. Select ‘Delete’ from the menu.

Removing Albums From Your Library

Method 1. To remove albums from your library, click the ‘Your library’ option from the left margin of your Spotify desktop app’s screen. Select the ‘Albums’ tab on the right. Scroll through your albums, find, and double-finger tap on the album you want out of your library, and select ‘Remove from library’ from the menu.

Method 2. Stay on the ‘Albums’ tab, locate the album you want to remove and click to open it. Now, much like playlists, albums are also liked by you to find a place in your library. So, click the green ‘Heart’ (like/love/following) icon, also known as the ‘Remove from Your Library’, to make it just an outlined heart.

Method 3. Open the album you want to remove from your library either by manually searching for it or by locating it on the ‘Albums’ tab of your library and click the ellipsis icon (three vertical dots) next to the ‘Heart’ icon. Select the ‘Remove from your library’ option in the menu to remove the album from your library.

This will instantly remove the album from your library. This also means that you also no longer like the album (in Spotify terms) or are following it.

Removing Artists and Podcasts From Your Library on Spotify Desktop App

As mentioned before, artists and podcasts are saved the same way. You follow artists or podcasts to add them to your library. Hence, the only way to remove an artist or a podcast from your Spotify library will be to unfollow the respective items.

Removing Artists From Your Library

Method 1. Launch Spotify on your desktop and click ‘Your Library’ from the left margin. Now, select the ‘Artists’ tab on your library screen.

Scroll through to find and double-finger tap on the artist you want to remove from your library. Select ‘Unfollow’ from the menu.

Method 2. Click the artist’s card on your library to open their profile. Then click the ‘Following’ button to turn it into a ‘Follow’ button, thereby, unfollowing the artist and removing them from your library.

Method 3. Stay on the artist’s page and click the ellipsis icon (three horizontal dots) below the credentials. Next, choose ‘Remove from Your Library’ from the menu.

You have now unfollowed the chosen artist(s) and thus removed them from your library.

Removing Podcasts From Your Library

Removing podcasts from your Spotify library requires a similar path as removing artists. Here too, there are three methods to get a podcast out of your library.

Method 1. Launch Spotify on your computer and click the ‘Your Library’ option to the top left of the screen. Choose the ‘Podcasts’ tab from the categories on the right. Then, navigate to the podcast you want to remove from your library and double-finger tap on it. Select ‘Unfollow’ from the menu.

Method 2. Open the podcast you want to remove from your library, and hit the ‘Following’ button to turn it to just ‘Follow’. This would instantly remove the podcast from your library.

Method 3. Instead of clicking the ‘Following’ button, click the ellipsis icon (three horizontal dots) next to it and select ‘Unfollow’ from the menu.

The podcast is now out of your library.

Removing Music From Your Library on Spotify Mobile App

Your library contains all your liked/following items on the Spotify mobile application as well. There isn’t a special section for playlists on the mobile Spotify app, unlike the desktop app. So, all removal will happen directly from the library.
