In the Dwelling of Life is the long Flamefeather Valley world quest chain in Genshin Impact 7.0, and it packs seven subquests full of Prime Ice construct puzzles and four major bosses. It follows Nastya, a strange little girl found in an abandoned tunnel, as she leads you deeper into the ruined settlement of Okurov. The whole run mixes water-level sewer puzzles, chandelier pulls, and gunplay, so it helps to know the sequence before you start.
Quick answer: Start the chain at the Statue of the Seven southwest of Morepesok, clear the caved-in tunnel with the minecart, escort Nastya through Okurov, solve the Blue/White/Red keycard sewer, beat Furiosa and the Hall of Prayers puzzles, then defeat Zhara to finish. The chain is complete when Aksinya leaves, and you unlock the “Gather for Everlasting Happiness” achievement.

How to unlock and start In the Dwelling of Life
You reach the quest area by progressing the Chapter 7 Act 1 Archon Quest, Everwinter Without Mercy. Specifically, you must finish the Gunfire in the Silent Lands subquest and activate the Statue of the Seven in Snezhnograd. Once that Statue is active, Flamefeather Valley opens up, and the quest marker appears.
The starting point sits on the frozen pond just south of the Statue of the Seven in Morepesok, directly southwest on the map. The fastest way there is the Train to Morepesok Station, found on the left side of the Station Map, which drops you close to the marker. If the Mutual Aid in Bloom: Into the Frostlands event is running, its event waypoint also lets you fast travel straight to Morepesok.
A Sprout Without a Gardener: clear the tunnel and find Nastya
Head further west to the stash location. You will find a caved-in tunnel entrance with a minecart attached to a Prime Ice Grappling Gun. Use Fab-Vision to remove that construct so the cart rolls into the boulders and blows them apart.
Enter the abandoned tunnel and reach the area piled with crates and scaffolding. Build a Prime Ice Grappling Gun next to the hook on the crate to pull it apart, then go to the very end of the space behind it to find the unconscious girl, Nastya.
After the cutscene, Nastya places a hook on the metal wall that was blocking you earlier. Build another Grappling Gun to break the wall, then follow the linear path down past a broken train until you arrive at Okurov, the forest-like area Nastya calls home.

Transplanted From Yesterday to Tomorrow: follow Nastya to the sewer
At the assembly hall, build a Grappling Gun near the marked window to open it. Jump inside and pull the lever behind the counter to open the gate for Nastya.
When Nastya slips away and a force shield boxes you in, go right and trace the barrier to a spot with Hydro Slimes beside a waterfall. Follow the water flow through the opening in the barrier.
In the next area, Leshy will wake around you. Defeat them, keep chasing Nastya, and climb the giant tree. This leads to the Tall Leshy boss. Beat it, and after the following dialogue the ground collapses, dropping you into the sewer.

Note: The fall into the sewer is where elements stop working. The Eye of Graeae grants access to the gun and TPS mode, so most fights from here rely on shooting.
Down in the Dumps: the three-keycard sewer puzzle
This is the longest puzzle stretch. The goal is to collect the Blue, White, and Red keys, use them to manage water levels and gates, then open the main sewer door.
Move forward and use the control wheel to open the first closed door. In the following room the control wheel is missing; find it on the boxes, pick it up, and use it to lift the next door. Since the door only rises slightly, press the sprint button twice to slide underneath.
Use the grenade launcher on the Pyro setting to destroy the boxes blocking the water crossing. Build a Grappling Gun on the far end and ride the floating plank across.
In the control room, read the Sewer Entrance/Exit Guide to learn about the three keys. Grab the Gunstock blueprint here as well. Take the Blue key from the control panel to the closed door on the left and lift it, then build a cube in the doorway so the door stays open once you remove the key.
Use the Blue key on the next terminal to lower the water. Remove the card and quickly head to the door downstairs before the water rises again, then use the key at that terminal to open it.
Inside, find the White key and build a Grappling Gun to open the blocked path. Place the White key on the terminal next to the Blue key terminal, and Paimon brings the Blue key over so you can open another door below.
Go through that door and climb the pipes to reach the Red key. Defeat the Leshy guarding it, then return to the main terminal, collect the Blue and White keys, and insert all three in the final room to open the main sewer gate.
Examine the Leshy in the sealed tube to awaken Klenova the Ascended and defeat it. Take the Sewer Lift Control Wheel from its head, use it to open the next door, and ride the lift back to the surface.

Back on One’s Feet: Ove’s house and the Furiosa fight
Follow Nastya to a closed house, climb to the roof, and drop in through the chimney. Use the grenade launcher on Pyro to blast the boxes blocking the basement.
In the cellar, build a Grappling Gun to open a wall and reach the lever for the next door. Slide over the cube to pass under the door, then leave the cellar and rejoin Nastya outside.
Inside the Hall of Prayers, build a Grappling Gun on the platform next to Nastya to pull a platform toward you, then remove the gun to ride up. Craft a Launching Platform to jump higher, build another Grappling Gun to pull the next platform, and repeat this pattern to cross to the lever.
Before the giant wheel, build a Grappling Gun on the left platform, then craft a cube in the broken space of the wheel. Dismantle the Grappling Gun to open the door and take the elevator up.
Solve the wall dial puzzle by aligning the dials with the Grappling Gun to match Nastya’s hand-drawn diagram, which opens the door to the “home” area. In the next room, investigate all three notes on the ground, two on the lower floor and one on the second floor. Picking up the third note starts a safety mechanism, so protect Nastya from range until she reaches you.

To Rest in a Forgotten Field and Chorus of Solace: Zhara and the ending
Follow the path toward the Teemic Mire. Nastya explains her transformation and turns into blue algae, and you obtain a part of the Eye of Graeae’s body. The Immortal Firebird, Zhara, then attacks. Defeat it with your gun to move on.
In the final stretch, search for Nastya and find her merged with the giant tree. The mysterious Aksinya appears, and once she leaves, the full In the Dwelling of Life chain is marked complete.

Rewards and how to confirm completion
Finishing the chain unlocks the Flamefeather Valley region and grants one of the Eye of Graeae, along with a gun blueprint you pick up during the sewer segment. The opening subquest, A Sprout Without a Gardener, alone gives Hero’s Wit x4 and Adventure EXP x350. The ending also hands you the Pebble of Serpentine Algae and the “Gather for Everlasting Happiness” achievement.
You know the chain is done when Aksinya walks away, In the Dwelling of Life shows as completed in the Adventure Journal, and the achievement pops. If a subquest will not advance, the most common cause is a Prime Ice construct still in place. Remove or rebuild the correct construct, since several doors only stay open when a cube holds them while a Grappling Gun is dismantled.
