Infinity Nikki: Protection of the Newborn random quest walkthrough

Infinity Nikki: Protection of the Newborn random quest walkthrough

Protection of the Newborn is one of three random quests tucked into the Boneyard region of Itzaland, all sharing the umbrella name The Past of Dragons and You. Finishing it rebuilds a shattered golden dragon skeleton near the Healing Ground, triggers a cutscene introducing the Nela birds, and lets you pick up a nearby Whimstar.

Quick answer: Teleport to the Blue Pools North Healing Ground Ferry Warp Spire, walk north to the broken dragon skeleton in the cave-like area, switch to the Dragonbone Master ability, and reattach the two missing bones to complete the quest.

Where to start the quest in Boneyard

The quest does not appear on the map until you physically walk up to the trigger. Fast travel to the Blue Pools North Healing Ground Ferry Warp Spire in Boneyard, then follow the path heading north toward the large dragon bones resting in front of the rock face. Crossing into that area pops the quest into your random quests tab automatically.

This is a permanent random quest, so it stays available after the current version ends. You will not lose access if you skip it now.

What you need before starting

The puzzle relies entirely on the Dragonbone Master ability outfit, which lets you grab and reposition the glowing bones scattered around the broken skeleton. You should have it equipped (or saved as a preset) before you arrive, since the quest expects you to use it immediately on the loose pieces.

How to repair the dragon skeleton

Two bones need to be returned to the main skeleton. Their positions are easy to misread because there are extra decoy bones lying around the site, so pay attention to which one the puzzle actually wants.

Step 1: Switch to the Dragonbone Master ability and grab the long bone resting off to the side of the broken skeleton. Carry it back to the main structure and line it up with the matching gap until it locks into place.

Step 2: Skip the bone lying on the left side of the area. Instead, head to the bone positioned slightly above the rest of the pieces, lift it with the Dragonbone Master ability, and attach it to the remaining empty slot on the skeleton.

Once the second bone clicks into place, the cutscene plays automatically. There is no third bone for this particular quest.

How to confirm the quest is complete

You will see a notification reading "The Past of Dragons and You: Protection of the Newborn - Random Quest Complete" once the cutscene with Plaios and the pink-haired girl ends. A glowing purple object appears next to the restored skeleton afterward; interacting with it gives you a Whimstar. The Nela birds also become available to groom in this area, which is the main reason this quest matters long-term.

Why this quest is worth doing

The cutscene introduces the Nela birds, and Nela feathers are a crafting material for the Slumber by Blossoms legendary outfit. Without finishing Protection of the Newborn, the dragon skeleton interaction stays locked, which is a common sticking point for players hunting that outfit's materials.

Protection of the Newborn is one piece of a larger trio. The other two random quests in the same chain — May Rebirth Touch All Things (near Blue Pools) and A Final Wish for the Future (near Dragon Ruins) — follow the same rebuild-the-skeleton formula with different NPCs in their cutscenes (Salos and Dagny, respectively). If you are working through the Seeking the Dragon's Rest event tasks, completing all three plus the Mural Restorer sliding-tile puzzle near the Great Lumieville Plaza Elevating Platform clears the full set.
