The writer behind the Bloody Baron questline is back at the studio after a decade, though her current project is unconfirmed.

Karolina Stachyra, who wrote The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’s Bloody Baron questline, is back at CD Projekt Red. After about ten years at Techland, she began returning to the studio as a consultant; she is now listed there as a full-time writer.

Quick answer: Stachyra returned to CD Projekt Red full-time in August as a writer, following a freelance consulting stint earlier in the year. The specific project she is assigned to has not been confirmed.

Timeline of Karolina Stachyra’s return to CD Projekt Red

Stachyra departed CD Projekt Red in 2016 for Techland. There, she served first as Lead Narrative Designer and then as Narrative Director on a fantasy project that had not been announced. Her return to CDPR unfolded over several stages, rather than through one direct hire.

  • February to July: worked with CD Projekt Red as a freelance consultant.
  • August: updated her LinkedIn profile to reflect a full-time writing role at the studio.
  • Current status: back at CD Projekt Red on a permanent basis, with her exact assignment undisclosed.

The move was noticed through the profile change rather than a formal studio announcement, so her precise internal title has been described differently across coverage. What is consistent is that the position is full-time and centered on writing.

Karolina Stachyra’s Witcher 3 writing credits

Stachyra is best known for the quest officially called “Family Matters” (in Polish, Krwawy Baron), more commonly referred to as the Bloody Baron. Paweł Sasko handled its design, while Stachyra wrote it, and it received a Golden Joystick Award in 2015 for Best Gaming Moment. In the quest, Geralt assists warlord Phillip Strenger in looking for his missing wife and daughter throughout war-torn Velen.

Her contributions to the game went well beyond that single storyline. Across the base game and its expansions, she handled a broad range of narrative and text work.

  • Main storyline and side content, including side quests, minor quests, and community chats.
  • In-game text such as books, letters, scrolls, the player’s journal, and monster and character descriptions.
  • Dialogue, tutorials, and tooltips.
  • Narrative design and dialogue credited across more than 40 quests.

She also worked on the narrative design for the two expansions, contributing to the main storylines of Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, including the quests Whatsoever Man Soweth and La Cage Au Fou.

Which CD Projekt Red project she may be working on

The studio has not tied Stachyra to any single title, and CD Projekt Red is running several major productions at once. That makes her exact assignment a matter of speculation rather than confirmation.

ProjectStatus
The Witcher 4In development, next mainline entry
The Witcher (original) remakeIn development
Cyberpunk 2077 sequelIn development

Given her history with the franchise, attention has focused on The Witcher 4, which centers on Ciri as the main protagonist and is being built on Unreal Engine 5 for a 2028 release window. Even so, her involvement in that title specifically has not been confirmed by the studio.

The role has been reported both as a general full-time writer position and, elsewhere, as a lead writing role. Until CD Projekt Red states her title and project directly, treat the specific job title and assignment as unconfirmed.
