Every requirement, boss summon cost, and mastery quest for the two new fighters added in the Frieren update.

Update 12 for Lineage Piece brings two new anime fighters into the roster: the Frieren weapon and the Yuji Itadori melee spec. Both sit behind material and currency gates, a summonable boss, and a mastery questline before they reach full strength. The build went live on Monday, August 24, 2026 at 3:00 PM UTC, alongside a raised level cap of 7,000 and the new Elysian Island.

Quick answer: Buy the Yuji spec from the Yuji NPC at Jujutsu Highschool, then summon and beat the Yuji boss using Cursed Orbs. Buy the Frieren weapon from the Frieren NPC on Elysian Island (Elf race required), then summon and defeat the Frieren boss with an Odd Tome. Both need their mastery quests finished to unlock every move.

Yuji Itadori spec requirements

The Yuji Itadori spec is sold by the Yuji NPC at Jujutsu Highschool. Before you can purchase it, you need to gather the following materials and currency.

RequirementAmount
Black Flash Sparkx3
Divergent Energyx3
Cursed Shardx1
Coins1,000,000
Gems6,500

Summon and defeat the Yuji boss

Some of the Yuji materials come from the Yuji boss, which you have to summon yourself. Each summon costs x2 Cursed Orb and 750 Gems. The Cursed Orbs are the part that takes work.

Start the Talisman quest at Jujutsu Highschool. It sends you to collect all five talismans placed around the area.

Collect all five talismans, then farm the mobs that spawn in the area. These drops give you the Cursed Orbs and Divergent Energy you need.
Spend x2 Cursed Orb and 750 Gems to summon the Yuji boss, then defeat it. With enough materials in hand, return to the Yuji NPC and buy the spec.

Yuji mastery quests and “The Vessel”

Owning the spec is not the end. The Yuji Mastery Questline has three quests, and clearing all of them unlocks “The Vessel” move, which grants a 40% damage buff. Each quest pays the same reward of 17K Coins and 1.7K Gems.

QuestObjectiveReward
Quest 1Deal 2M damage using Yuji17K Coins, 1.7K Gems
Quest 2M1 with Yuji 450 times17K Coins, 1.7K Gems
Quest 3Defeat Yuji 10 times17K Coins, 1.7K Gems

You will know a quest counts by watching the objective progress tick up, and the buff applies once “The Vessel” appears among your moves. You can confirm the full spec on a Training Dummy to check the base and buffed damage numbers.

Frieren weapon requirements

The Frieren weapon is sold by the Frieren NPC on Elysian Island, the new region added with this update. The biggest gate is not currency but your character’s race. You must be an Elf to buy it, so reroll your race first if you are not already one.

RequirementAmount
Great Mage’s Journey Bookx1
Broken Staffx1
Mana Stonex1
RaceElf
Coins35,000,000
Gems25,000

Summon the Frieren boss with an Odd Tome

Frieren’s rare drops come from the Frieren boss. Summoning it costs 1,000 Gems, x1 Odd Tome, and 75,000 Coins. The Odd Tome is the limiting piece, and it only comes from Mimic Chests.

Mimic Chests spawn at random across every island in the game, and a fresh batch appears roughly every 5 minutes. Find one, defeat it, and it can drop an Odd Tome. Because spawns rotate through all islands, patrolling known chest locations speeds up the hunt.

With an Odd Tome in your inventory, pay the summon cost, then take down the Frieren boss to collect her drops.

Frieren mastery quests from Serie

Frieren is unusual: when you first equip the weapon it has no active skills at all. You unlock its entire moveset by completing five mastery quests from the Serie NPC on Elysian Island. Each quest unlocks one key bind, in order from Z through R.

MoveRequirements
Z MoveDeal 250,000 damage using Frieren, use M1 250 times, kill 50 Mages
X MoveDeal 500,000 damage using Frieren, use Flame Fruit skill 100 times, kill 250 Mages
C MoveDeal 1,000,000 damage using Frieren, use “X” skills 150 times, defeat 350 Mages
V MoveDeal 2,000,000 damage using Frieren, use “Z” skills 200 times, kill 30 Mimics, clear Simulate Sea 5 (3 times)
R MoveDefeat 500 Mages, deal 3,500,000 damage using Frieren, kill 15 Frieren Bosses, use Black Hole Scroll

Because early quests require dealing damage with Frieren before you have skills, expect to grind the first thresholds using M1 attacks alone. Each unlocked move appears in your hotbar as its quest completes, which is how you confirm progress.

Both fighters follow the same pattern: buy the base item, summon and beat a dedicated boss for its rare drops, then grind the mastery quests to reach full power. Yuji is the faster of the two, since its costs are lower and it only asks for three quests. Frieren is the long haul, gated behind the Elf race, a 35,000,000 Coin price tag, and a five-part questline that ends with defeating the Frieren boss 15 times.
