Lord of the Maw Boss Fight in The Adventures of Elliot

Stun the giant fish with Bombs, ride the lilypads, and claim the Moonmirror from the Rainbow Lotus.

Stun the giant fish with Bombs, ride the lilypads, and claim the Moonmirror from the Rainbow Lotus.

Lord of the Maw is the boss waiting at the end of the Rainbow Lotus in The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales. It is a massive fish that anchors itself at the edge of the arena while the floor is covered in lilypads. The fight is short on attacks but heavy on punishment, so a single careless moment can cost you a chunk of health and force an expensive revive.

Quick answer: Keep Bombs equipped, and the moment Lord of the Maw inhales deeply, drop or throw a Bomb near its mouth to stun it for several seconds. Ignite it with Faie, hit it hard during the stun, then retreat. Once it drops below 50% health, stand on a rippling lilypad and jump with the Cape to clear its giant water wave.

What to bring before the fight

There are no strictly required weapons or accessories, so your usual loadout will work. The two items that make the biggest difference are Bombs and a cape that lets you hover. The Flutterer’s Cape costs 1,000 Tul in the Kingdom of Huther item shop, and it pays for itself the first time you clear the boss’s wave attack by jumping into the air.

  • Plenty of Bombs. If they are not slotted, be ready to hotswap to them instantly.
  • A hover cape so you can leap above the water wave that triggers in the second half.
  • Faie’s Ignite ability, which adds big damage during the stun window.

Lord of the Maw attack patterns

Lord of the Maw has a small set of moves, but each one hits hard. Learning to read the wind-up animation for each is the key to staying alive.

AttackHow to handle it
Back-to-back waves of water orbsBack away so the orbs spread out, then weave through the gaps.
Deep inhale that sucks Elliot in and chompsSwap to Bombs and feed one into its mouth to stun it.
Fin smash that drops rocks from the ceilingStay mobile and keep moving out from under falling chunks.
Frog minion summonsKill the frogs to stay safe and pick up more Bombs.
Huge water wave (after lilypads ripple)Stand on a lilypad, then jump into the air as the water arrives.
Whirlpools spinning around the roomTrack their movement and keep clear of their path.

How to beat Lord of the Maw

The fish usually opens with water orbs. When it lurches backward, retreat as far as the arena allows so the orbs have room to fan out, then slip between them. Do not try to tank these.
Watch for the deep inhale. This is your only real damage opening. As soon as the boss starts sucking air, hotswap to Bombs and drop or throw one right next to its mouth. It will swallow the Bomb, the Bomb explodes, and the boss is stunned for several seconds.

During the stun, use Faie to Ignite the boss and move in close to deal as much damage as you can. Then pull back. Attacking outside the stun window is generally not worth the risk, so be patient and wait for the next inhale.
Handle the fin smash and frog summons as filler between stuns. Keep moving so the falling rocks miss you, and clear the frogs quickly so they do not flank you. Defeated frogs can also drop more Bombs to refill your supply.
Once Lord of the Maw drops below 50% health, watch the floor. When you see lilypads ripple with water underneath them, step onto one immediately. Its most dangerous attack is coming.
After a short delay, the boss summons a huge wave of water. Standing on a lilypad alone is not enough. As the wave reaches you, jump into the air to rise above it and avoid all damage. This is exactly why the hover cape is worth buying.

Repeat the cycle. Bait the inhale, feed it a Bomb, burst it down with an Ignited Faie, then survive the waves and whirlpools until the next opening. The fight is a rhythm of small, safe damage bursts rather than sustained pressure.

How to know you won and what you get

When Lord of the Maw is defeated, it scatters Magicite across the arena. Collect all of it, then claim the Moonmirror key item that the fight rewards. The Moonmirror looks slightly off when you pick it up, which is intentional and gets addressed shortly after as the story continues.

Lord of the Maw in the Temple of Trials

Lord of the Maw returns later as a challenge in the Temple of Trials during the Sophomore’s Trial, which can grant an extra accessory slot. It appears on Level 7, and it is one of the easier rematches there. The mechanic is the same. Toss a Bomb when it tries to swallow you to stun it, then run your high-damage routine with Faie.

Whether you face Lord of the Maw at the Rainbow Lotus or again in the Temple of Trials, the answer never changes. Keep Bombs ready, wait for the inhale, and never let the second-half wave catch you on the ground.
