Madden 27 Franchise Mode: Best Star-Dev Players to Trade For

Young, cheap targets with Star development traits that upgrade your roster now and keep improving every season.

Young, cheap targets with Star development traits that upgrade your roster now and keep improving every season.

Draft picks build a roster slowly, so trades are how you jump ahead in Madden NFL 27 Franchise Mode. The goal is simple. Bring in young players who carry the Star development trait, sit below the $2 million cap hit where possible, and already post strong physical ratings. Those players play well right away and keep climbing across seasons, which lets you swap out flat, no-development veterans for talent that grows.

Quick answer: Target young players with the Star development trait and a cap hit near or under $2 million. The easiest high-value trades are Chimere Dike (WR), Ray Davis (HB), Harold Fannin Jr (TE), and Trey Amos (CB); quarterbacks are the hardest to pry loose and are usually better drafted.

What makes a player worth trading for

Two things decide a good trade target. First, the development trait. Every player listed here has a Star dev trait, which means faster progression and a higher ceiling than a standard player with no dev trait. Second, the cap hit. Most of these players cost under $2 million, so they fit easily into a rebuild without wrecking your salary space. A few sit slightly above that line, but only where the position lacks cheaper options or the player is clearly worth it.

Difficulty to acquire also matters. A player’s persona affects how willing his team is to deal. Approachable players are easier to land, while a team’s franchise cornerstone at a thin position will demand a heavy offer.

Wide receiver trade targets

Receiver is the deepest group for trades, and the gap between most of these options is small. Luther Burden III and Troy Franklin both sit at 79 overall with elite speed and acceleration, making either one a strong plug-and-play upgrade.

Kyle WilliamsNew England Patriots$1.51M739481
Chimere DikeTennessee Titans$1.37M749485

Xavier Worthy is the priciest receiver on the board because he is the fastest player at the position, with a maxed 99 Speed and 98 Acceleration at age 23. That speed also makes him the hardest receiver to trade for, but his Approachable persona means a strong offer can still get it done.

If you would rather not spend big, Chimere Dike is the best value. The 24-year-old posts strong catching, jumping, and speed numbers, and he also carries the Approachable persona for easier negotiations. His route running needs work to reach an elite level, but he is a bargain even in his current state. Troy Franklin, Luther Burden III, and Kyle Williams round out the group, and outside of Worthy, any of them is a reasonable target.

Halfback trade targets

Halfback is the friendliest position on this list. Every option is cheap and easy to acquire, and the ratings sit close together. Ray Davis stands out with a 93 Carrying rating, and his archetype split gives him extra value as a 75-rated Elusive Back and 72-rated Power Back.

Dylan Sampson is the one back here with the Elusive Instinct trait, which improves his Juke Moves. If you want a runner who slips through defenders without contact, Sampson edges ahead in maneuverability. Kaleb Johnson brings a strong 90 Change of Direction and 89 Carrying if you need a third option.

Tight end trade targets

The tight end pool is small, but neither target requires a heavy trade. Harold Fannin Jr is the clear best pick. At just 22 years old he already holds an 80 overall with an 80-rated Vertical Threat archetype, plus the Rac Receiver and Strong Arm traits, both useful for a flexible role.

Oronde Gadsden is the backup plan if the Browns won’t deal, and he is not far behind. He lacks Fannin’s traits but carries Possession Receiver, a solid situational trait for securing catches in traffic where he already rates 82.

Cornerback trade targets

Cornerback offers the most defensive depth for trades and player development. Trey Amos from the Washington Commanders is the top target by a slim margin. He handles both Man and Zone coverage well, which suits any scheme, and he adds a 78 press, 85 jumping, and 72 catching. That catching number matters for turning contested throws into interceptions.

Cam HartLos Angeles Chargers$1.16M739174 / 77
Juju BrentsMiami Dolphins$1.86M728868 / 72

Nohl Williams from the Chiefs is the next best pick, thanks to a 79 catching rating and balanced Man and Zone coverage. He is a touch slower than Amos, and he carries the Undisciplined trait, so expect more penalties. Jacob Parrish leads this group in raw overall and speed if you value pure coverage range over ball skills.

Quarterback trade targets (hardest to land)

Quarterback is by far the toughest position to trade for. Each team carries only a few passers, and no one gives up a starter without a large offer. Don’t let the higher cap hits scare you off, though. These three are the most realistic passers to acquire that are also worth the investment.

Jaxon DartNew York Giants$3.85M778877
Tyler ShoughNew Orleans Saints$2.45M779273
Michael Penix JrAtlanta Falcons$6.23M739271

Jaxon Dart is the standout, with well-rounded numbers and plenty of room to grow, including an 81 Under Pressure and 85 Play Action. The catch is that he is the Giants’ primary quarterback, so landing him takes a big package.

Jaxon Dart Stats - Madden 27

Michael Penix Jr and Tyler Shough are also the starters for their teams, which is why quarterbacks are usually better secured through the draft when you are planning long term. If you are set on trading for a passer, expect to pay a premium for any of the three.

Across every position, the winning approach is the same. Chase youth, the Star development trait, and a manageable cap hit, then let those players progress into your core. Receivers, halfbacks, tight ends, and corners give you cheap, easy deals, while quarterbacks stay the one spot where the draft usually beats the trade block.
