Marvel Rivals Season 9.5 pairs the arrival of new Vanguard The Hood with a focused wave of balance tuning that touches 18 heroes across all three roles. Most of the work goes toward reining in Peni Parker, trimming a few oppressive Team-Up combos, and giving underused characters extra damage or utility. Luna Snow is the notable name left completely untouched.
Quick answer: Peni Parker’s Cyber-Web Snare loses its instant Immobilize and becomes a charge-based ability, while Devil Dinosaur, Doctor Strange, Rogue, Cyclops, Moon Knight, Phoenix, Wolverine, Jubilee, Loki, White Fox, and several Team-Ups get buffed. The changes go live with the Season 9.5 update on August 7, 2026.
The Hood and the Season 9.5 release date
The mid-season update adds Parker Robbins, better known as The Hood, as a heavy-hitting Vanguard whose demon barriers reshape how frontlines fight. Because he brings a strong new tool to the tank role, several existing heroes are being retuned so they can counter him and so no single Team-Up runs away with a match.
Season 9.5 releases on August 7, 2026 across eligible platforms. You will know the balance pass is active once the update finishes installing and the changes below appear on each hero’s ability cards in-game.

Peni Parker’s control has been the standout nerf. Her Cyber-Web Snare no longer locks enemies down on the first hit, which had become too frequent and left opponents with little counterplay. In its place, the snare now applies crowd control in stages and costs more to set up, though her secondary fire gains freedom in return.

- The direct Immobilize on hitting an enemy is removed. Cyber-Web Snare now applies a Web-Tracer stack and a 30% Slow for 1 second. The Web-Tracer lasts 5 seconds, and hitting an enemy who already carries one Immobilizes them for 0.7 seconds.
- Cyber-Web Snare becomes a charge-based ability with a maximum of 2 charges.
- The Bonus Health cap from Cyber-Webs drops from 200 to 150.
Base ability buffs
These adjustments change a hero’s core kit and apply regardless of the Team-Up you pick. White Fox gets the largest quality-of-life change, with a cheaper Ultimate that now supports the whole team on cast.

Team-Up buffs
Several pairings are stronger this patch, with Doctor Strange and Scarlet Witch benefiting most from their shared synergy. When Scarlet Witch teams with Strange, Chthonian Burst becomes Mystic Burst, letting her fire magic missiles freely with no energy cost. The base version runs on an 8-second cooldown and 8-second duration, while the enhanced version turns it into a toggle.
| Hero | Partner | Change |
|---|---|---|
| Devil Dinosaur | Jeff the Land Shark | Surf & Turf duration 4s to 5s; ally healing 40 to 60. |
| Doctor Strange | Hulk | Gamma Maelstrom cooldown 8s to 6s. |
| Magneto | Scarlet Witch | Enhanced Effect: Metallic Chaos projectile hits now add a minor Launch Up. |
| Cyclops | Gambit | Concussive Beam attack frequency boost 10% to 15%. |
| Moon Knight | Cloak & Dagger | Luminous Moon cooldown 15s to 12s; dash 0.3s to 0.35s and 12m to 15m; enhanced grants 3s of 20 HP/s healing after leaving Phased. |
| Phoenix | Rogue | Telekinetic Beatdown damage 45 to 55. |
| Gambit | Magneto | Spell field Launch Up frequency adjusted from 0.5s to 1s. |
All Season 9.5 nerfs
Outside of Peni Parker’s rework, the nerfs are limited and mostly target specific Team-Up combos rather than base kits. Venom is the exception, taking a cut to his survivability and mobility.
| Hero | Change |
|---|---|
| Venom | Symbiotic Resilience Bonus Health reduced from 120% to 110% of lost health; Venom Swing cooldown 8s to 10s. |
| Black Panther (with Storm) | Team-Up area damage 40 to 30; cooldown 12s to 15s. |
| Elsa Bloodstone (with Devil Dinosaur) | Smoky Snare trap health 100 to 50; control duration 1.5s to 1.2s. |
| Hela (with Namor) | Undead Monstro single-hit damage 15 to 10. |
Taken together, the patch pulls Peni Parker off the top of the meta and softens the strongest offensive pairings, while handing steady, incremental power to duelists and strategists who needed it. Load in after the August 7 update to test how The Hood and the retuned rosters reshape your go-to comps.
