Every hunter you create in Mistfall Hunter shares the same ceiling, and it arrives earlier than most extraction games would lead you to expect. The number matters because it shapes how you build, when key systems open, and where progression moves once the experience bar stops filling.
Quick answer: The max character level is 12. Reaching it from level 1 costs 14,400 total XP and grants 8 talent points along the way. Level 12 needs no further XP, and no class or build raises the cap.

The level 12 cap and what each level costs
XP is counted per level, not as a single pool, so each rung asks for a fixed amount before you advance. Talent points arrive at eight specific levels rather than every level, which is why an eight-point budget is the most any character will ever hold.
| Level | XP to next | Total XP | Talent point |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 300 | 0 | — |
| 2 | 600 | 300 | +1 |
| 3 | 800 | 900 | +1 |
| 4 | 1,000 | 1,700 | — |
| 5 | 1,240 | 2,700 | +1 |
| 6 | 1,430 | 3,940 | +1 |
| 7 | 1,550 | 5,370 | — |
| 8 | 1,670 | 6,920 | +1 |
| 9 | 1,800 | 8,590 | +1 |
| 10 | 1,930 | 10,390 | — |
| 11 | 2,080 | 12,320 | +1 |
| 12 (Max) | — | 14,400 | +1 |
The developers have not published the cap in the interface, but it is visible through the trophy for reaching maximum level, which any class can earn.

Add to Google Preferences →Where run XP comes from
A raid pays account XP five ways: escaping, surviving long enough for your level, killing monsters, opening chests, and killing other hunters. Escaping and the survival bonus are yours alone. Monster kills, chest opens, and hunter kills pay every living teammate the same amount you earned, so being downed at that moment means missing the payout.
Escape and the survival bonus are the dependable part of a run because they land regardless of how the rest went. Everything else scales with difficulty and party size. Solo runs pay roughly triple a three-player run per kill, and Chaos and Cataclysm pay about 30% more than Normal.
| Mode | Escape XP | Hunter kill | Queues |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hallowgrove · Normal | 50 | 30 | Solo · 3-player |
| Brandrgarde · Normal | 55 | 35 | 3-player |
| Hallowgrove · Chaos | 65 | 40 | Solo · 3-player |
| Brandrgarde · Cataclysm | 65 | 40 | 3-player |
In a Hallowgrove Normal trio, a chest pays 7, 15, 22, or 30 XP by tier, a hunter kill pays 30, and the toughest monster in the game pays 80. AI hunters count as hunter kills, so those also feed the bar.
The one-level-per-raid rule
You cannot bank more than one level in a single raid. Once you earn enough XP to finish the level you entered with, the run stops paying out. Kills, chests, and the escape bonus all stop counting, and any overflow that would have carried into the next level is lost.
Because of that, a run that levels you up is the moment to leave. Head for an extraction point rather than pushing for more loot the game will no longer credit as XP. At minimum this puts the floor at 147 runs from level 1 to 12, since a raid never awards fewer than one level’s worth.
Play safe to protect what you earn. Prioritize tasks, run efficient monster routes, and extract. Dying in the mist costs your loot and your escape bonus, which hurts far more than a few chests you walked past.

If you would rather skip the grind, the Upgrade Boost fills every remaining level at once for Gyldenblod. It runs at 4 XP per Gyldenblod, so a full 1 to 12 boost costs 3,600. Raising the Gyldenblod Pool to level 9 doubles the rate to 8 XP per Gyldenblod, cutting that to 1,800.
Systems that unlock as you level
Levels are the account-wide progression key. Reaching certain milestones permanently opens systems, and those stay unlocked across every character you later create.
| Level | What opens |
|---|---|
| 3 | Auction, letting you buy the gear you want instead of relying on chests |
| 5 | Camp upgrades through Camp Revitalization, which also needs 10,000 Gyldenblod on hand |
| 6 | Path of Glory, the ranked system |
| 10 | Most classes finish their skill unlocks here |
| 12 | Final talent point; the Sorcerer gains Cryptic Ward |
Because nearly every core system is available by level 10, the last two levels mostly complete your kit rather than open new features. That is worth keeping in mind when you plan an alternate character.
Progression after level 12
Level 12 ends XP leveling, not progression. Several systems keep moving after the bar stops.
Your build locks in
Eight talent points are not enough to fill a talent tree. The cap forces you to specialize instead of eventually owning everything. Talent points can be reset for free at any time, so nothing is permanently locked to one build.
Gear becomes the ladder
Gear and level are separate systems. High-difficulty Mist Lords, especially on Cataclysm, are the main source of top-tier equipment. Holy weapons, rare affixes, forging, gems, and Auction purchases keep mattering after your level stops moving.
Path of Glory keeps climbing
The ranked ladder runs independently of the character cap, through seven ranks: Duskborn, Mistwalker, Dawnseeker, Fateweaver, Oracle, Exalted, and Zenith. Extracting, killing monsters, completing tasks, and hauling out valuables award Rank Points, and failing to extract takes them away. Normal stops paying Rank Points past Fateweaver I, so climbing further means moving into harder content.

The camp outlasts your character
Camp buildings are their own long-term track, adding storage, better forging, scavenging zones, and extra character slots. One detail stands out: the Warehouse caps at level 13, one above the ceiling on your own hunter.
Seasonal content continues
Season 1 brings the Soul Hunt storyline, seasonal tasks, Soul Harvest activities, a Battle Pass, and leaderboards, with harder PvE content on the way.
Alternate characters get faster
Once your account has a max-level character and your Gyldenblod Pool sits at level 4, Spirit Infusion unlocks. It lets you spend Gyldenblod to level lower characters directly, with players reporting roughly 3,600 Gyldenblod for a full 1 to 12 boost and later pool upgrades bringing that down. Expect the exact number to shift with patches.
Level 12 comes faster than the grind in most extraction games, and that is the point. The game wants you thinking about gear, rank, and camp buildings rather than an XP bar. Bank one level per raid, extract while you still can, and treat the cap as the moment the climb simply moves somewhere else.
