The Insect Glaive has always been the weapon that asks you to juggle three colored buffs while trying to stay glued to a monster. In Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, that loop gets a second layer on top of it. The Boost Bracer adds a Boosted state with its own combo tree, a rebuilt Kinsect Powder system, and offset attacks baked into moves that previously had none.
Quick answer: Boost Bracer energy builds from sustained attacks in Master Rank. Activating Boost upgrades Kinsect harvesting, adds offset-capable Boost Driver combos, and lets Kinsect Powder stack on the monster for later detonation.
How the Boost Bracer works on the Insect Glaive
The Boost Bracer becomes available once you reach Master Rank. It is not a consumable or a cooldown ability. You fill its energy by keeping pressure on a monster, and once the gauge has enough charge you spend it by triggering Boost, either through a dedicated Boost Driver attack or through actions specific to your weapon.
Every one of the 14 weapon types gets its own set of Boosted Actions, so the bracer is less a universal buff and more a per-weapon expansion pack. For the Insect Glaive, Boost splits into three effects that run at once: faster and harder-hitting Kinsect behavior, acrobatic combo extensions that keep you airborne, and new offset counters.

Add to Google Preferences →Kinsect Powder rework: stacks on the monster, not the air
This is the structural change most likely to alter how you play. Instead of leaving a cloud that you have to attack through, powder now attaches directly to the monster and builds up in stacks. You keep adding stacks as you fight, then set them off with specific moves for a burst of damage or a spike of status buildup, depending on the dust type your Kinsect carries.
Kinsect dust types remain Recover, Poison, Paralysis and Blast, so the detonation is only as useful as the Kinsect you brought. A Blast Kinsect turns stacked powder into a damage payload. A Paralysis or Poison Kinsect turns it into faster status application on a target you were already committed to hitting.
The Attack Boost: Powder Kinsect bonus increases the effectiveness of Kinsect Powders, which makes it a far more interesting pick now that powder is a stacking resource rather than a passive cloud.
Boosted Kinsect: Harvest Extract also generates powder while it gathers extracts and deals extra damage on the way through, which means the same input feeds your buffs, your damage, and your powder stacks at the same time.
New Insect Glaive moves in Ascendance
Inputs below use the PlayStation button layout. Several of these moves only exist while Boost is active.
| Move | Input | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Sweeping Offset Combo | Boost Driver | Sweeping combo that counts as an offset attack and collects extracts on hit |
| Boosted Offset Spiral | R1 + Triangle + Circle | Panic counter; follow-up Kinsect Slash Combo harvests multiple extracts |
| Rising Leaping Strike | Left Stick + Triangle after Descending Slash | Leaps forward into an airborne follow-up; consumes red extract |
| Inverted Tornado Slash | After Tornado Slash, or Triangle, R2, Circle | Directional aerial reposition that detonates powder without spending extracts |
| Boosted Thrust | Boosted state | Forward piercing thrust that hits upward and launches you into the air |
Boost Driver and the new offset counters
The Boost Driver sweep is the headline addition. It has an offset counter built into the animation, so you are not choosing between activating Boost and defending yourself. Connecting with it also pulls extracts, which is the kind of consolidation the weapon has needed for years. The move plays a lot like Tetraseal Slash from Monster Hunter Rise if you spent time with that game.

Boosted Offset Spiral is the panic button version. Fired off with R1, Triangle and Circle, it covers you when a monster commits to something you did not read, and the Kinsect Slash Combo that follows sends the Kinsect out to grab several extracts at once. You recover defensively and rebuild your buff state in the same exchange.
Rising Leaping Strike
After a Descending Slash or Strong Descending Slash, holding a direction and pressing Triangle sends you leaping forward into an airborne attack. It spends your red extract to do it, so it is a deliberate cash-out rather than something you throw into every string. The payoff is a clean transition from a grounded charge move into the air without vaulting first.

Inverted Tornado Slash
Inverted Tornado Slash comes out of a regular Tornado Slash, or from the Boosted string of Triangle into R2 into Circle. It lets you pick a direction in the air and detonates stacked powder on the way through. Crucially, it does not eat your extracts, making it the repeatable powder detonator in the kit while Rising Spiral Slash stays the expensive finisher.

Marking combo and Boosted Thrust
A new ground slash combo folds Kinsect marking into the string itself and then carries you up into a rising slash, so you no longer have to stop attacking to place a mark. The Boosted Thrust is a separate addition: a forward piercing stab that deals damage upward and throws you into aerial combat, giving you another entry point into the air besides vaulting.
What existing moves do differently while Boosted
Boost does not only add moves. It rewrites several attacks you already use.
| Move | Change while Boosted |
|---|---|
| Descending Slash | Extended offset window, altered visuals, higher effectiveness |
| Kinsect: Harvest Extract | Instant piercing harvest, extra damage, generates powder |
| Strong Descending Thrust | Applies a Kinsect mark as part of the attack |
| Tornado Slash | Extra animation frames and additional hits |
| Kinsect launch | Travels faster, deals more damage, lands more hits |
| General combos | Can mark the target and release dust mid-string |
The wider offset window on Descending Slash is the one worth internalizing. Offsets were already the Insect Glaive’s best defensive tool, and a more forgiving window while Boosted means you can gamble on reads you would normally avoid.

How the combo loop fits together
The practical shape of a Boosted sequence is: open with Boost Driver to trigger Boost and grab extracts, send out the empowered Kinsect to harvest and lay down powder, then chain into Boosted Tornado Slash and its inverted follow-up to set the powder off. Because marking and dust release now happen inside your normal combos, far fewer inputs are spent on housekeeping.

Extract management still sits underneath all of it. Red, white and orange extracts stack into the Triple Up state for 90 seconds, granting higher attack, flinch resistance, resistance to roars, tremors and wind pressure, and access to Rising Spiral Slash. Boost changes how quickly you can rebuild that state after spending it, not whether you need it.
Platforms and release window
Coming in 2027, Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance has no more specific date announced for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, or PC. Those platforms already have the base game, with the PC release available through Steam; meanwhile, the Switch 2 edition of Monster Hunter Wilds is set for December 4, 2026.
Everything shown so far comes from pre-release footage of a Master Rank expansion that is still more than a year out, so inputs, damage behavior and powder stack counts can shift before launch. The direction is clear enough, though. The Insect Glaive is being pushed toward a rhythm where offsets, extract harvesting and powder detonation all live inside the same combo string rather than competing for your attention.
