The Torpor Stone is an Infusion Tarstone in Mortal Shell 2 that coats your primary weapon in Stasis, a status that distorts time and slows whatever you hit. It sits in a chest tucked behind a waterfall in the Withered Shoals, and the only way in is through a corrupted gate that stays shut until you cleanse a specific beacon.
Quick answer: Cleanse the Gate of Mammon beacon to open the corrupted gate beside it, run the Withered Shoals to the Ossinite Falls beacon, then step behind the waterfall and open the chest in the hidden cave.
What the Torpor Stone does and what Stasis costs
Equipping the Torpor Stone to your primary weapon gives you an infusion you trigger manually. It consumes 25 Resolve and applies Stasis to your strikes for a limited number of hits. Stasis slows the target, and the stacks build with every connected hit, so a slowed enemy gets progressively more sluggish the longer you stay on it. Sluggish enemies telegraph longer, which makes openings for heavy swings far easier to read.

The infusion window is what improves as you level the stone. The Resolve cost stays fixed at 25.
| Level | Infusion duration |
|---|---|
| Level 1 | Lasts for 4 strikes |
| Level 2 | Lasts for 8 strikes |
| Level 3 | Infusion is permanent |
The stone slots into a primary weapon rather than a sidearm, and it is listed as compatible with the Axatana and the Obsidian Hammer. If the slot refuses the stone, you are holding a weapon outside that compatibility list.

Note: a sheep-like enemy roams this cave area and drops the Sheephead Totem. Killing it is optional and has no bearing on the chest.
How to confirm you picked it up
Opening the chest triggers a “New Tarstone Acquired” banner naming the Torpor Stone. From there, open the Tarstones menu and the entry appears under Infusions at Level 1, with the description line reading “Consumes 25 Resolve to infuse your Weapon with Stasis.” If that banner never appeared, the usual cause is a different chest — the correct one is behind the water sheet, not in the open cavern in front of the beacon.
The other reason players get stuck is the gate. Reaching the corrupted gate without cleansing the Gate of Mammon beacon leaves it sealed, and there is no alternate entrance into this stretch of the Withered Shoals.
Upgrading the Torpor Stone at the Tarforge
Tarstone upgrades run through Franz at the Marrow Keep, but the Tarforge only offers them once you hand him the Etching Needle. That quest item is looted from a bone chest just before the Magdalena, the Lady of the Woods boss fight. When you spot Ruk past the bridge, drop through the opening and turn right before the tunnel to find the small side area holding the chest.
After Franz has the needle, keep the Torpor Stone equipped and kill enemies to fill its experience bar. Once the bar is full, return to him and pay Coin to push it to the next level. Getting it to the permanent-infusion tier means you never spend Resolve on Stasis again, which frees that Resolve for weapon abilities instead.
Because the Ossinite Falls beacon sits a few steps from the chest, it is worth revitalizing before you loot. It turns a long run through the Withered Shoals into a single fast travel hop the next time you want to farm the crystal spires or clear the area properly.
