Baghead’s questline in Mortal Shell 2 is a joke with a payout. Solve his riddle and the game rolls a fake set of end credits, and when you load back in, a mask is sitting on the throne he used to occupy. It is the only way to get the item, and the whole thing hinges on giving him absolutely nothing.
Quick answer: Travel to Desolate Peak, sit with Baghead’s followers, take the Special Moonshine to him, put the bottle back where you found it, then return empty-handed and answer Yes to every prompt. After the secret ending credits, pick up the Baghead Mask from his now-empty stone throne.
Baghead Mask requirements and reward at a look
| Detail | Specifics |
|---|---|
| Where the mask spawns | Baghead’s stone throne at Desolate Peak, beside the Illusionist’s Cache entrance |
| How it unlocks | Finish Baghead’s questline and let the secret ending credits play |
| Also unlocks | The hidden Bag Holder achievement |
| Where you wear it | Harbinger form only, swapped under Change Masks at any beacon |
| Effect on your save | None. Pick Continue and you resume at your last activated beacon |
The mask is purely cosmetic and it does not show up while you are wearing a Shell. You only see it on the bare Harbinger, so if you spend most of your run possessed by something, it will mostly live in your menu.

Add to Google Preferences →How to reach Desolate Peak and find Baghead
Desolate Peak is a small island hanging off the western side of Fainweald, and you can only get there by traversal point. The cleanest run starts at the Gloomshade Grove beacon.

If you happen to be coming from the Citadel Gate instead, take the right-hand path down the slope, clear out the Brigands and Knaves, then cross the bridge on your right to the same Bone Gate.
How to complete Baghead’s questline and trigger the secret ending
Baghead asks you to bring him something special. He means nothing, literally, and the Special Moonshine that appears nearby is bait. You still have to walk through the bait, though, because skipping it leaves the quest stuck.

Note: you do not need to clear the Illusionist’s Cache dungeon for any of this. It is only useful as a landmark for the Moonshine.
How to confirm it worked and collect the Baghead Mask
You know the sequence landed when the credits appear and the Bag Holder achievement pops, with the description reading “You’ve mastered nothing and this is your reward. Pretty pointless, eh?”
Let the credits finish, then choose Continue from the main menu. Your save reloads at the last beacon you activated, with the main story and everything else untouched. This ending does not push you into New Game Plus.
Head back to Desolate Peak. Baghead and his followers are gone, and the mask is sitting on the empty stone throne where he used to be. Grab it, then open Change Masks at any beacon to equip it on the Harbinger.
Why the Baghead ending won’t trigger
There are only a handful of ways to break this, and every one of them is a skipped step rather than a bug.
- You never sat down with his followers at the campfire, or you stood up instantly.
- You left mid-conversation instead of exhausting his opening dialogue.
- You never picked up the Special Moonshine or never showed it to him.
- The bottle is still in your inventory. Walking away after his rejection is not the same as physically putting it back on the crate.
- You picked the option that backs out when he gives the final warning.
Because nothing here is time-gated or missable, you can run the whole thing the moment you can reach Desolate Peak. The mask costs you a few minutes and a set of fake credits, and the run you were already playing carries on exactly as it was.
