Trollweed is a Permanent Pickup in Mortal Shell 2 that reads like a joke item. Its description flags a “far more potent variety,” and at Tier 1 it does nothing in either the Active or Passive slot. The catch is baked into the item text: reach 1,000 of them and the Trollweed transforms into one of the strongest defensive tools in the game. You can only find two per playthrough, so both spots matter.
Quick answer: Grab the first Trollweed through the broken fence beside your starting coffin, and shoot the second down from the ceiling dome inside Marrow Keep using a Sidearm. Collecting 1,000 total unlocks Tier 2, which grants full damage immunity in the Passive slot.

Both Trollweed pickup spots
There are exactly two Trollweeds in any single run. One is locked to your first playthrough, and the other can be picked up again on every subsequent run.
| Trollweed | Location | Repeatable? |
|---|---|---|
| #1 | Hidden clearing edge next to your starting coffin, through the fence gap | First playthrough only |
| #2 | Center of the ceiling dome in Marrow Keep, near the Marrow Keep beacon | Yes, every run |
Trollweed #1: The starting clearing
The first Trollweed sits in a tucked-away spot right where the game begins. After you rise from the coffin, scan the wooden fence ringing the clearing for a gap you can walk through.
Step through that opening and turn right. The Trollweed rests beside a low fence that overlooks a wide chasm. Take it now, because this area is sealed off in New Game+ and cannot be reached again after your first run.
Trollweed #2: The Marrow Keep dome
The second Trollweed hangs in the same chamber as the Marrow Keep beacon. Stand at the beacon and face the Shellkeeper Vault where Zhirelle sits, then look up. A large, brightly lit dome covers the ceiling, and the Trollweed floats in the middle of that hollow space.
You can’t reach it on foot. Knock it loose with a Sidearm such as Naylshotte or the Forgotten Crossbow, then walk over and collect the dropped item from the floor. This is the one you’ll farm repeatedly.

Two per run and a target of 1,000 means the intended path is a long grind. Your first playthrough nets 2, and every New Game+ run afterward lets you re-collect Trollweed #2 from the Marrow Keep dome. Repeating that shootdown across 999 playthroughs gets you to 1,000.
On PC, the UE4SS Cheat Menu mod can grant 1,000 Trollweed instantly from the console. One warning applies regardless of method: once you own the Trollweeds, there is no way to drop them or roll back the effect they trigger.

What 1,000 Trollweed unlocks
Hitting 1,000 upgrades the item to Tier 2 Familiarity and rewrites both of its slot effects. The Passive is the reason to do this; the Active is mostly a novelty.
| Slot | Tier 2 effect |
|---|---|
| Active | Turns you into a stationary bush |
| Passive | Grants total immunity to all damage |
In the Active slot, activating Trollweed transforms you into a motionless bush. You become untargetable and nearby enemies stop being hostile, but you can’t move at all, which makes it more of a curiosity than a useful ability.
The Passive slot is where the payoff lands. With Trollweed equipped there, you take no health damage from anything, including grab attacks. You still get hit and staggered when enemies connect, but your health bar never drops.
Note: There is one exception. The Cosmic Disease status effect, inflicted by Zmey, the Unbidden, during the final boss fight, ignores Trollweed’s immunity entirely. Everything else in the game is shut out.
