Mortal Shell 2: Vestige of Infinity and The Silent Steps Walkthrough

Every beacon, both tarstones, the Sariel shell, the Clockwork Scythe, and the Forbidden Archives boss in one clean route.

Every beacon, both tarstones, the Sariel shell, the Clockwork Scythe, and the Forbidden Archives boss in one clean route.

The white rock country at the southern end of the Ruins of Mammon is really one continuous snow field split into two halves. Vestige of Infinity sits on one side of a small stone bridge, The Silent Steps on the other, and the entire thing hangs off a giant elevator at the back of Castigator’s Keep. Cleaning it out gives you two tarstones, a new shell, a new primary weapon, a sidearm, and the key that opens the Forbidden Archives back at Marrow Keep.

Quick answer: Ride the Castigator’s Keep elevator, kill the Starved Harridan, then smash the cracked wall along the snowy path to expose the hidden Vestige of Infinity Beacon. Work the loop for the Colossus Stone, the Parasitic Stash, and the Thief’s Stone trial, beat Sariel, the Endless twice to reach the Chamber of Becoming, then return to Marrow Keep with 35 Ovum siphoned to unlock the Forbidden Archives.

How to reach Vestige of Infinity and The Silent Steps

From the Outskirts of Mammon, follow the Road to Absolution into Castigator’s Keep. The locked gate inside the keep is not the way through — the wooden scaffolding beside it is. Cleanse the beacon there first, because you will teleport back to it several times, then take the elevator at the far end up into the snow.

There is a second way in if you have already opened the south. Fast travel to the Gate of Mammon, run the Lonesome Spire, and you come out at the Gate of Infinity Beacon on the far edge of the zone. Either entrance works, but the elevator route puts you at the start of the loop below.

Starved Harridan boss fight and its drops

The Starved Harridan waits at the top of the elevator and is effectively the gate on the whole region. She spends a lot of the fight airborne in an open snowy arena, so keep your back clear and punish her landings rather than chasing. Killing her drops Voltaic Essence and Voltaic Amber, and the path onward opens to the left.

All beacons in the snow zone

Four beacons anchor this stretch of map. The Vestige of Infinity one is the easy miss, since it sits behind a destructible stone wall rather than out in the open — walk the snowy path, hit the cracked section with any weapon, and the pillar is on the other side.

Ruk, the oversized crow, appears near the Vestige side. Talk to him and open the chest he is sitting beside to pick up the Map of Mammon [2], which fills in the rest of the region on your map.

Colossus Stone location and the Parasitic Stash dungeon

Head back to the Castigator’s Keep beacon and take the alternate path into the snow, past the stone pillars and the ghostly enemies guarding them. The Colossus Stone sits in a locked chest at the bottom of a drop that is packed with cultists, so buff a weapon before you jump down rather than after. It pairs well with the hammer for raw damage.

The Parasitic Stash is a hole in the ground nearby, reached by an elevator down. Inside are spider-like enemies and a dual-wielding swordsman guarding a chest with a Wormglass Core. Three walls in the dungeon are fake — break all of them to collect the Decanters and Nectar stashed behind them, along with Ventrium and a Dorsalite from the throne in the hidden room.

Note: the Bone Gate in front of the Colossus Stone chest links out to the Forgotten Tower, which is a separate area. Take it only when you are done here, or you will lose your place in the loop.

Thief’s Stone: the Corrupted Statue trial

The second tarstone comes from a trial rather than a chest. From The Silent Steps Beacon, go down the slope into the cave, drop out the far end, cross the stone platform and use the white jump spot to launch back up into Vestige of Infinity proper. Head up the stairs to the Corrupted Statue and interact with it.

The trial spawns waves of mixed enemy types in an enclosed arena, so buff your weapon before you start and pull them apart instead of fighting the group. Interacting with the statue again once the arena is clear hands over the Thief’s Stone.

Both Revered Gland locations

One Revered Gland sits in a chamber lit by glowing blue pillars. Destroy the central light source before you commit to the fight — it weakens every enemy in the room — then loot the gland from the urn at the end. The second is at the end of the Unfound Path segment you enter through the glowing door guarded by two Faceless Clerks, past the stone bridge on the Silent Steps side.

A third pickup worth grabbing on the same sweep: clearing the corruption on the lower platform below Sariel’s arena finishes automatically once the enemies there are dead, and the stand in the middle holds a gland as well.

Sariel, the Endless: both fights and all three rewards

Sariel is fought twice. The first meeting is outdoors and cannot be finished — dropping his health simply makes him retreat and opens the route to the Chamber of Becoming.

Take the bone teleporter near The Silent Steps Beacon to the opposite cliff, clear the enemies on the far side, and follow the path left into the open arena where Sariel appears.
Fight him at range. His close swings apply lightning, which keeps draining health after the hit lands, and his projectiles home in on you. Strafe sideways rather than backing off, land one or two hits after a swing, and reset.
When he retreats, go behind the large statue in the arena. A doorway opens there. Follow the stairs down, take the dungeon entrance behind the statue, and ride the elevator into the Chamber of Becoming.
Fight him again. At roughly half health he vanishes and respawns elsewhere in the chamber, and the path ahead opens up. Use your ranged weapon on the four glowing revival tablets around the arena — while any survive, he keeps coming back.
Drop down and finish him. The kill awards the Clockwork Scythe.

The shell is a separate pickup. Approach the corpse in the middle of the arena and hold the interact button to inhabit the unknown shell, which starts a memory sequence. Take the Extraction Saw from the table, follow Ruk to the elevator and down toward the beacon, then use the saw on the Ovum. You come out of the memory with the Sariel shell unlocked. Speak to Ruk, head up the stairs, and the stone structure there holds the Caged Hystrix sidearm.

The teleporter behind that stone structure drops you back at the dungeon entrance, and a bone gate on the large stone platform outside returns you to The Silent Steps Beacon.

Forbidden Archives: 35 Ovum, Milos, and Gloombound Wrath

The dungeon attached to this region is not in the snow at all. It opens under Marrow Keep once you have fed the siphoning device enough Ovum.

Return to Marrow Keep and spend a Synaptic Vessel to improve Mether’s Pulse efficiency if you have one spare.
Deliver Ovum to the siphoning device until the counter reads 35 Ovum siphoned, then speak with Milos.
Watch the cutscene. A red curse spreads across the keep and permanently changes it, opening a new passage with an elevator down into the Forbidden Archives.
Fight Gloombound Wrath at the bottom. It shrugs off damage until you find and destroy the red glowing piles of books hidden on the shelves around the room. Break those, then attack the boss while it is vulnerable. The kill drops the Curseblood Stone.
Cleanse the corruption in the archives, collect the Ova, and speak with the Undermother to close out the sequence.

How to confirm the area is fully cleared

You are done when all four beacons are cleansed, both tarstones are in your inventory, the Sariel shell is selectable, and the Gate of Infinity Beacon has been revitalized so the Corrupted Gate opens toward the Faded Citadel. If a beacon is still missing from your fast travel list, it is almost always the Vestige of Infinity one behind the breakable wall.

Two things commonly stall progress here. Sariel will keep reviving in the Chamber of Becoming if even one of the four tablets is left intact, and Gloombound Wrath will take no meaningful damage while any red book pile is still glowing on the shelves. Both are checks you can see on screen, so sweep the room before blaming your build.
