Track down the item in the Temple of Vatra, survive the ambush, and claim Gragu's Shell for yourself.

Track down the item in the Temple of Vatra, survive the ambush, and claim Gragu’s Shell for yourself.

Gragu sits alone in the One Legged Wolf Tavern in the eastern part of Fainweald, ignoring everyone around him. Keep pressing the talk prompt and he eventually asks for one thing: the Heart of Vatra. Bring it to him and you unlock his Shell, though the game never tells you where the item is hidden.

Quick answer: The Heart of Vatra is held by a corrupted kneeling statue at the top of the Temple of Vatra, directly east of the One Legged Wolf beacon. Grab it, escape the ambush through a side exit, and hand it to Gragu to claim his Shell.

Start the quest with Gragu in the One Legged Wolf Tavern

The One Legged Wolf beacon sits in eastern Fainweald, with the tavern a short walk down the road. Fast travel there and head inside. Gragu is slumped at a table next to the bartender while the other patrons drink and talk about him.

Interacting with Gragu the first few times gets you nowhere. Keep spamming the talk prompt without leaving. There is no fixed number of attempts, so stay in the room and keep pressing until he relents and asks you to bring him the Heart of Vatra. Leaving and returning later does not seem to advance it, so finish the conversation in one visit.

Tip: While you are in the tavern, grab the Troubadour’s Lute. It is one of the more useful early items and comes in handy for making enemies fight each other.

Reach the Temple of Vatra east of the beacon

The Temple of Vatra sits on an island directly east of the One Legged Wolf beacon. This area stays permanently hidden under fog of war, and it will not appear on your map even if you collect every map fragment in the game. You have to travel there on foot.

From the One Legged Wolf beacon, turn so the tavern is in view and look to its left. You will see a bridge extending further east. Take it.
Keep heading east along the cliffside path, past the petrified people and two vampire bats. The Overrun Quarry dungeon is along this route if you want to explore it.

At the end of the pass you reach a Bone Gate. Use it to cross the chasm to the island further east. This drops you at the Temple of Vatra.

Grab the extra rewards inside the temple

Walk up the stairs and through the large archway to enter. You will see a staircase leading further up, a clearing on the right, and another on the left. Before climbing to the top, clear out the side rewards so you do not have to return.

Enter the right clearing and pick up the Synaptic Vessel in front of the stone stele. There is also a sheep behind the structure you can kill for a Sheephead Totem.

Take the Heart of Vatra and escape the ambush

Return to the main staircase and follow it straight up without turning off. At the top is a large corrupted statue of a kneeling figure surrounded by petrified bodies. Walk up and interact with its hands to pick up the Heart of Vatra.

The moment you grab it, the petrified bodies come alive and attack, and an obstruction drops behind you to seal the way you came in. These enemies behave like the vampire foes from the pass and will leap at you. They are weak, but the danger grows with their numbers.

You do not need to fight your way out. Turn left from the statue to find a broken section of wall you can jump down. There are more petrified bodies on the level below that wake as you pass. Look for the side exits that stay open and slip out, looping back toward the Berserker’s Stone area until you reach the gate and cross back over. You can run past everything without stopping.

Give Gragu the Heart of Vatra to unlock his Shell

Head back to the One Legged Wolf Tavern and talk to Gragu again. A prompt appears asking whether you want to hand over the Heart of Vatra. Select “Yes.”

A cutscene plays where Gragu eats the heart on the spot and dies instantly, which also earns the “Heartless” bronze trophy. His body is left behind for you to inhabit. Walk up to the corpse and interact with it to add Gragu to your collection of Shells.

You know it worked when the death cutscene finishes and you can interact with Gragu’s body to switch into him. His kit centers on Staggering Blow, a chargeable punch that stacks heavy stagger the longer you hold it, and Revered Heart, which restores health and refills its charge as you slay foes.
